what do you mean ? i can weld but not an expert ,but as i said before i have done machine work .engine boring ,head work ,lathes etc,why are you searching old threads

Thanks for the info chaps and chapesses

Bought a couple of the proper drill bits... and am going to dry the weld pool idea tomorrow. I will get Kai to have a bash too... he is a little better than me at normal mig welding and I am hoping that he will take to this one just as well as he has other methods.

We are probably going to weld a lot of patches onto the floor we already have. The main reason is that we could both do with the practice welding... and it is much more use where Kai is concerned if he can see a useful result to his welding rather than endless rehearsals on scrap metal. The floor will not end up a tidy finish... but since we intend to panel it after it is finished and it will not be at all visible, we both reason that the overall prettiness of the finished article is not an important consideration.

Of course it will take longer. There are a lot of patches to prepare bu that's the point. He will have to decide what area to grind back, but and prepare the patches, then afix them.

Now, as you might have guessed, I am not a professional welder... I am not a professional anything (except, some might say, ass!) But this does seem like one way forward...

He has done some repairs on the rear booty bit... let me see whether I can find a photo or three!

This was him last week

And yes I DID have a go at him about protective gear on his arms and hands... and YES he has promised faithfully to always wear it in future!

Fact is I didnt notice that he wasn't wearing it... the damn stuff was three feet away in the back of the same car he was welding!
