i drive a s3 88' soft top and am wanting to put a roof rack on it. the only ways i can think of doing this are to fit it to an external roll cage (which i can not afford at the mo) or to make holes in my canvas. i was just wondering if anyone here had done it and any tips on how i should go about doing it?
thanks

I saw a Defender 90 Cab/Rag Top with a roof rack - they had bolted an access ladder to each side of the pickup tub and used those as supports for the rear of their rack. Looked better than it sounds!

red hand, do you have any photos of your 110 that i could have a look at to get an idea if its possible for me to do please?
thanks :)

I did have some somewhere, but can't find them rite now. But basically there were two legs at the rear that came down at each side and were bolted to a bracket that was then bolted to the rear cross member they were made of 1" square box section and had a triangular reinforcing plate welded at the top that bolted to the rack. Half way down there was a 3"x1" flat plate that bolted to the rear tub and acted as a steady to stop the rack from swaying. the front fittings were the same except that they sat on a bracket that was fitted behind the screen hinge brackets.

I'll try to find the pictures as I shoul have them somewhere but they may well be on my old PC in which case they'll be gone.

check out this months land rover owner international, it features a section on deep wadeing defenders, the 90 in the testing is a soft top but with a roof rack that looks realy sturdy. may be worth looking into how the mod do it (may be expensive tho)

Just been walking around the MOD high speed test track near Aldershot and saw a 110 with a roofrack attached to a rag top with the bracing passing through the canvass and fastening to the hoops. Going too fast to see if they had extra bracing on the hoops.
