Are there any other hoses other than the silicone ones that go to or from the Turbo??

I also have this whistle but just thought it was down to escape allowance
and not having a dump valve it made a more constant noise rather than the
sudden release of pressure..

I may get some large Jubilee clips and try them as mine are the T bolt type at the moment, as suggested by DHP, so I can only take there word for the correct sizes

Here are my silicon hoses

There are 5 hoses in the set-see above.

Air intake and 4 turbo/inter cooler hoses.

The worst one to get to is the one down by the radiator. I used a 6mm open ended spanner and when it was loose enough, spun it round to use a screwdriver. Just make sure when you put it back it is in an easier position to do up.

I have tried to drive mine when the Turbo gasket to Exhaust had come apart so the turbo wasn't running,
believe me you know if the turbo isn't working mate, 20mph max and if you hit a slight incline forget it..

That looks smart under the bonnet!,the turbo is working just doesn't seem too pull much after 2800rpm I get the feeling it's just too low geared with the big wheels and tyres on it

Yeh I noticed they look a little tricky to get at il get them ordered and get it done this Sunday it does have a little wine to it I just put it down to normal turbo whistle as iv removed the prop and gear and put a plate on the box where the gear goes so I can't put the whine down to that being shagged

What size tyres are you running??

Standard Freelander 17" are 225/55/17

They are 235/65/17s mate do you think that would alter the gearing enough to down the power abit? It does feel good low down now iv replaced the maf it just feels like it runs out of steam to quick in each gear

Shouldn't make that much of a difference.

Have you checked out the sticky at the top about loss of power at 70mph?

2800rpm is close to 70 in 5th gear.

Il get a quick look now mate I have touched about 95 on a private road with a wind behind me down a hill lol

I don't know mate I am not a specialist on this matter,
All I will say is your spedo is reading 60 Mph
your actually doing 65.1 Mph..(8.5% Difference)

Most people state not to excede 2% differance when changing
tyres,,but thats road tyres on a road going car..I would imagine
the same would or should be true with the Freelander..

Yes your gearing is out but by enough,,,,,,,,,,,,, I don't know,,
Bloody good job your prop and VCU are not attached though..

Try a set of wheels with the correct sizes and see if they are any better,,

Fairly cheep sets of 16" on ebay at the moment..
Good Luck..

so with your spedo reading 8.5% under,,
your driving on a private road at the cars
(When new maximum speed of 103.075Mph)

Your not under powered your just expecting too much..

Its a Freelander not a Skyliner

Ah so that explains a lot! Thanks for that info mate I'm going to get a set of standard 16s and boost solenoid fitted and see if that improves it any more,my father has a td4 the same age and it goes loads better,he also has a td5 defender that's been to twisted performance up north and it makes my Freelanders performance look none existent lol

and boost solenoid fitted

while your doing that .. check that the turbo actuator arm aint sticking ..

~~~~~~
related: in the case of turbo 'overboost' .. the ecu will reduce the engine power
to avoid causing damage ..
( am not sure if that causes a dashboard warning light to come-on )
Could it be fuel related, starvation..
have you checked the fuel filter, and might be worth checking the pick up strainer in the tank..
