Evening all,
Getting on well with my s2a project now so starting to think about non rust/welding related bits and bobs :) Really want to fit some kind of roll over protection as I plan to only run a bikini roof (although I'm not sure a hard top would fair well in a roll).
Now I don't do extreme off roading.. only really green lanes and the odd bit of pay/play stuff - never the extreme courses only the moderate.. So I want something suitable but not a full on cage, I've seen rear half cages that have a hoop (with brace) which bolts through the tub floor to the chassis and stays that goes to the back of the tub.. but have yet to find anyone who stocks them "off the shelf".. There are various manufactures for one off etc but they tend to be ££££... although I'm sure they are great I've not got the money for one.
The other type I keep seeing is the military type that bolts to the tub.. but these strike me a likely to just collapse the tub itself??
Any thoughtson where to look?

Half hoop behind you head is not enough you need one around the wind screen braced back to the hoop by your head............ you could end up rather fooked another way.

well ok, pipe bender, notch cutting device so hole saw with a large pillar or radial drill or milling machine, tig/mig welder and a protractor

or just buy the bends and straight pipe which would be the cheap easy method

i had a full external put on my 110 when i had it around 10 years ago, it totally removed the body rattle.

Seriously regret selling that.

Hopefully will get one of whitbreads flat packs for the s3 one day

cutting torch and a grinder and you can cope pipe all day. use welded eldows and you have a week spot unless you have 100% weld, most people can not do that and mig will never do that

true it'll have a HFA on the tubes where its weaker but he doesn't need a comp spec cage

I have a scratch start TIG and they're good for steel and even alli if you get the right extras

you will never get 100% weld Doc with that you need backing rings with a 1/4 root and 22 1/2 degree bevel shoulders

wont be touching roll cages, my local guy can build me a flat pack cage for not much more than the cost of the tube so no need for me to ever go near one

tig is just for when I get bored or if I want to use plasma cutter but needs sorting before using

Thanks for the replies and thoughts.. I'm going to spend a bit of time pondering the options. I do like the idea of a professionally made cage but the only downside (if you can call it one) is that it would have to wait a while as they are a bit more money than I have currently.. infact one would more likely double the bill for the whole build! Still I guess you can't put a price on your own (or passengers) safety... :)
