Got round to the rockers today and reground and polished the faces. While re assembling them on the shaft (kept everything in order) I have noticed the center block has two washers either side and a few others scattered throughout the gubbins. The end blocks however aint got a washer between them and the end rockers. They are chewed up slightly on their mating faces and when dry fitted they look like they would benefit from a 1mm shim to center them on the valve top.

Is there a 'thing'......................

You can see on t'thinsrucions there dunt look like there was one originally  which seems a little strange but would adding one cause an uge hexplosion

Have you put a straight edge on all the mounting surfaces to see if there is a gap. I wouldn't have thought spacers were needed originally. If there is a gap it will need to be spaced or the rocker shaft may twist slightly and affect the movement of the rockers.

It duz indeed. Two on each side of the central pillar and one either side of two and four pillar. Seems strange not to have one inside pillar 1 and 5. The mating faces are bound to wear over time but as they do the spring obviously moves it outwards moving it off the valve. Its only half a mill so I doubt the pushrod would be worried.

Does it need two washers either side of centre pillar to line up, or would one each side suffice?
I actually thought Id put it together wrong at first but yes it needs the two. I may just order a couple of half mill shim washers and slip them in the ends to protect the faces. I cant see it doing any harm. I realise some form of pre load is built into the springs but Im probably only replacing whats worn out.

mine is as your diagram , 8 fitted, as long as pocket pads central on valve head not an issue, I would guess the original ones have good

Could have been gummed up oil ports at some time that have allowed a bit too much friction. As I say, it’s not terrible and I’ve run the faces over a diamond stone to remove any burrs.
I may just wack it back on today, save waiting for the shims. The rocker face is in full contact with the valve top, it’s just getting a little close to the edge for my liking.
Just waiting for the rain to clear a bit :(

Right. Stuff it, it’s on.

just got to set the timing and put the chain on and I can start rebuilding the damn thing.
