P38A Seat mechanism

These have just gone hard and have disintegrated, couple of questions, do I really need them and are they just there to prevent the metal to metal contact at the end of travel. I was thinking of getting some polyurethane rod and making replacements, I can put a split line in them to be able to push over the screws. However, if they ain’t fully necessary I would probably not bother. I have looked on LRCat but there are no details of the seats for some reason, has anyone got a detail drawing of the mechanism?

The mechanism could jam without the bump stops. I use electrical grommets as the bump stops, they come in many diameters and thicknesses. Cut to fit then a loop of wire in the groove with the ends twisted together ensures they stay put.
