Continuing the saga of my overheating problem i just noted that when engine running the top hose and heater hoses go very hard....cannot compress them with fingers at all.
Does this point to something?
Had hydro test done and according to the garage its OK. They havn't done a cylinder compression test or looked at plugs so have suggested this to them.
Any further thoughts?

Stat seems to open as required, going by feeling hoses, but have not teken out and tested in hot water to see what happens.
According to the chap who did the heads the liners were not dropped and all flush with block deck.....perhaps as she has gone to red light on temp guage twice since heads done there is now a gasket failure......but the Hydro test is OK.......so far spent £1,600 and still have an unusable Rangie.....just beginning to get a little frustrated.....still no choise but to continue

If the hoses are hard and pressure is just building up suggests the thermostat isnt opening going on all the work that been done on it, did you check theres not a thermostat in the housing at top hose?

Take alook at thermostat housing on bottom hose and check if it looks new, did you say its had a new water pump?

i dont want to be the one to upset you but it not looking good. i did my h/gs twice in a week skimed tested and still the same you will have to start thinking block or liner

hi will if you want to use your rr i think you have plours block run though all the things you can take small pipe off top of rad make sure water is running in to expation tank if you have not put a new raditor on take yours out and wash it through if all this fails get irontite not a fix but you will be able to use it while you save for a new block best of luck

Yes new water pump cannot check the new stat as in local garage but have asked them to remove and test it.

New rad. fitted

I have left it with local garage, nice guys but think they are crashing their heads on this one. The fact that they said is was all OK, after a two hour drive incentral London, when they handed it back to me and the fact that it overheated after half an hour when I got it back seems to me it is their problem.......we will see.

i hope i am wrong i been where you are and saving for new engine looked into every pos it was sitting out side winding me up in the end i orded irontite off flee bay came next day i was driving round same day been on motorway give it some no prob yet touch wood. if it was no good why would land rover sell it for v8s tells you some thing

Pourous block also allows gasses in the water doesnt it? aint there water channels between the pots where it suffers 'porous' ?

yes some times but mine showed no gasses but block was porous as i understand it depends where it is gone and how much all my tests came back ok but still overheating in the end it depends how much money you have i had just about run out and needed the car on the road
