Hi guys! I know it's a touchy subject, and one that's been done to death, but I've (honestly) searched and searched and there isn't a whole lot of opinion on this particular query!

Here goes....
My 90 currently has some cooper stt pros on, that I cannot fault one little bit for off road forays. They perform absolutely outstandingly in the rough, I've pulled trailers up steep wet grassy fields, driven most mid and North Wales lanes in them, have driven with mud up over my axles and snow over the front bumper, and I'm yet to get stuck!!
However, I'm doing lots of road use now, and I'm hoping to purchase a rooftent for this summers frolic to France, something which I hope to be doing much more of in the future.

I need/want a totally road biased tyre with a snow/winter mark in the size of 235/85 r16, can anyone recommend through experience a tyre to match this criteria?

I'm not at all interested in an all terrain tyre, as to me, they are useless, and represent the worst of everything, too much of a compromise on road and off, I say this through experience, when I'm off road, I'm properly off road, and when on it, I tend not to involve the off road aspect, hence my desire for a dedicated road tyre. I'll be keeping my mud terrains on some steel modulars for off road work.

Look forward to some suggestions, many thanks :)

Does anyone have any experience with the bfg urban terrain? I know bfg have a good name, I've never even seen these before!

Goodyear wrangler

I had Goodyear wrangler a/t’s on my 90 and they were awful. Good on road and adequate off road but always had to be changing one as it either had the wire come out the sidewall or developed a bulge. I went through 7 tyres in three years until I changed to bfg a/t’s. I do 4 miles on a rough stoney track a day

Goodyear wrangler

+1 - my first thought actually - SWMBO has them on her D1 ... good tyre IMHO. Though, I have BFG AT KO2 on mine, and they are better in the snow than the wrangler, which isn't surprising ... but they have to do all year round for me..

For summer only use, I would have the wrangler all day

Blimey, not good :(

Cheers guys! All helpful suggestions!

@1988smithy I did have a look at the conti's and they look good and seem well regarded, will have to see prices

@bankz5152 hi matey, yeah I always thought I would go for them but they are more all terrain by the looks of the tread than a road (correct me if I'm wrong) so I thought they'd be noisier than a dedicated road tyre, interested to hear your thoughts on that though!

Anyone driven with prirell Verde or michelin longitudes!? Thanks again for all the pointers, really appreciate it! :)

Several years ago I had a RRC fitted with Wranglers by a previous owner. Prior to going on holiday with the car I had the tyres balanced & was surprised when the tyre centre manager stated that the technicians had ''done their best'' & invited me to check out my tyres with him. On inspection I could see what the guy meant when he said that the treads had 'squirmed' & advised against fitting these tyres to heavy SUV's.

The local garage was servicing a few land rovers used by the snh and they had Goodyear Wrangler m/t's on and after a couple of years the treads started delaminating and said he wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I had Pirelli a/t's on for 4 and a half years and only changed them as the tread came down. They were good tyres although not that aggressive for off road

I had Michelin XPC 4x4s on my 90 when I bought it. They are an all-season road tyre which are reasonably good off road as long as it's not too slippery. Not sure if they're still available though.
