You won't be affected by the new shock horror 4x4's are evil tax due to your motor being made before 2001. Have a look on the dvla website for the full details.

You have a pre March 2001 car and so will fall into the PLG 'Private Light Goods' class.
Your tax will cost £185 from 22nd March, going up to £200 a year later.

Budget 2008

Table A.8b: VED bands and rates for private and light goods vehicles

registered before 1 March 2001 (pre-graduated VED)

Engine size 2008-09 2009-10

1549cc and below 120 120
Above 1549cc 185 200

If its a TD4, check the Co2 emissions printed on the V5 logbook and look up which tax band it falls in.
Someone on here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the TD4 is still relatively cheap to tax?

crap in't it..... that is why il be keeping mine 1998.....
i wonder how long it will be before they impose the high tax on older vehclies because everyone will start buying pre 2001 cars .
good news for us as i dare say the value of pre 2001 car may increase as nobody will want to shell out the 400 quid or so on top of paying increased fuel duty, and congestion charge which will no doult go nationwide before the year is out.

Isn't everyone getting this all out of proportion? Even 400 quid is a very small part of the running cost over a year when you take into account fuel, tyres, repairs etc. People are getting daft. Stick to nice big motors, I reckon they'll come down in price more than the tax goes up so overall it'll be a winner if you're buying and not that bad a hit if you've already got one.

At least its nice to see all the new roads, hospitals, schools, etc that our taxes are paying for.

Exactly Jonfre, what are we getting for the increase? Personally I think £400 is extortion, how many other countries tax the common man so heavily, our fuel tax says it all. But then you people voted in Labour Government.

might just sod it and get my bandit back on the road lol its getting beyond a joke now
any little the can get from us they do

just think what it may do to the landrover sales is this another company with its back to the wall??

Fortunately NI my conscience is clear, I have never voted Labour in all my life. I clearly remember the likes of Peter Hain, Jack Straw, etc, when they were young - leopards don't change their spots.

My 03 TD4 will be around £340 a year to Tax. The other day I filled up and as i drove away i thought of how much it was costing to run my new beloved and I consisered selling up and geting a more economical car, Then i thought FCUK IT!

Im not letting these narrow viewed idiots rule my life. Also if anyone seriously thinks that high fuel duties and Taxes are anything to do with the government trying to save the planet then they need to pull their heads out of their arses, they are just using it as an excuse to tax the working man again and as usual we all just lay down and take it.

Around 2% of greenhouse gases are produced by man, the rest are natural, also of the 2% how much of that is produced in the UK? Hardly any i should imagine. So why has our government taken it up themselves to save the plant?

stop bitching!!!!
we are in the middle of power outages, yet the head of the electricity supply commission gets a 42 million performance bonus
