Why are the Police not getting involved in this situation now? Its obviously very easy to nick a Land Rover, buy a logbook and vin plates and sell it on at massive profit for doing nearly nothing.

I know we post details of suspicious items on ebay and the like on here, but at LandyWatch I have now created a section for posting details of suspicious items found on ebay. Hopefully it will allow us to cross reference them with the details of vehicles reported stolen.
We are currently working on the mapping system and a home page for articles and the like. I am looking at getting stickers produced for our vehicles, and also getting in touch with magazines to try and get the site featured.

LandyZone and mystolenlandrover.com have such a huge number of hits I'd probably put mine there first

True. But dont you think the more places the better?
Only needs to be one person that looks on LandyWatch rather than mystolenlandrover.com that could have spotted your landy!!

I agree, but the more members on landywatch the better, and when the mapping system is up and running, that will allow us to see where stolen vehicles are on a map, and track where they where recovered/if they are recovered and show a lot of detailed information on a map, I believe it will give us more functionality and the ability to cross reference things within the database.

I'm only basing my opinion on how the site is today versus Landyzone with 60k members and 1.2million posts etc...it might really take off and be a useful resource, but at moment the site is brand new and still in development stages with no page titles or meta tags so I cant see it ranking very well on search engines as it is now.

I'd also question whether the forum/bb format is right for it as a dedicated stolen land rover register??

The forum is just there at the moment as it was the easiest way to set it up. To be honest I dont really know what I am doing.

I am trying to set up a home page using wordpress to allow us to post the maps and articles, but to be honest will hopefully be a community effort, and the more people involved with ideas etc is the way forward.

I need help with the site, so if anyone would like to offer their help then please do!

Have you thought about an image hosting software such as 4images (example: Galerie - WELCOME to uscars-trier.de - Gallery and Cusstom.com - Custom Impala SS, Caprice, Wagon and Fleetwood Pictures). Visually its much more immediate...you can have a latest images section straight away on page 1 so without having to trawl through lists or do searches you can see the latest batch of stolen vehicles. The mapping function could be added later and shouldnt be too hard to do.

I might be able to help. In terms of hosting what have you got at the moment?

Ive got unlimited linux hosting with unlimited bandwidth with hostandgo.co.uk and it seems pretty good.
I just have no idea what to do with it apart from using the simple one click installers for things like wordpress, and obviously the phpbb forum.

I was hoping to create a wordpress home page that would then link to the different sections of the site. The home page could then hold latest images, articles, information etc.

Any help would be great!
