Sorry, they dont trust us with matches. Besides trumpton get all excited about playing with matches. Cat rescuing water wasters! :D

Have you got any ideas on what we can do about the number of 'dodgy' landys on ebay? It seems that even when the police are notified they can't be arsed to do any proper research. I know that through my own experiences with the SVS that they know their jobs but it seems like the standard Bobby in the station or on the phone can't even be arsed to pass the information on to them. I woulda thought that info handed to them on a plate would be the sort of thing they would like?

Probably up to their eyes in paperwork and according to the news today theres going to be 10,000 less plods shortly.WTF. Only way to get action is to put it on paper and address it to the Divisional Commander.

SVS do know their stuff, that is true, but they are jacks of all cars and masters of none. Reading what you guys know this is all invaluble info. Once got a stolen Freelander back just by noticing that the plate was too old for the car, pulled it, checked it and bingo stingo was one not returned from a test drive on the previous day. That was only because my wife had a freelander and I knew a bit about them!!!

As for the police not being arsed, I am amazed. They live by detected crimes on area and CID. SVS is they best route to take as they have the expertise and resources to check the car and prove its real identity. However my advice is that if you dont get any joy, ask to speak with a supervisor. That should get you somewhere, but it shouldnt really come to that!!!

Yeah, have seen that thread. I dont know what their resources are or what their work load is like in the SVS. I guess its just a case of getting round to stuff! Thats no good for poor old chilean miner who is hanging on the end of his phone, waiting to get his car back.

God help us and the general public when these cuts really bite. The only people rubbing their hands will be the criminals. I do know that most departments are all pulled out, going from job to job, all day. There is barely time to write up what you have done in the day before the end of the shift!!!

As for e-bay if you spot one like this make a note of the evidence that suggests it is a ringer. Call the SVS in the area where it is for sale and give them all the details. Get contact details and get a log number. Ask for an update and tell them that you'll call back for an update in 2 days or something. Be persistent too!!! This should ensure that they make the correct enquiries!!!

Will SVS deal with the general public over the phone or will they insist on all info going through comms?

I know that in my neck of the woods I can get in touch with them pretty quick due to my job. I don't know how easily the average person on the street could get hold of them though. I have a sneaky suspicion that whoever is on the switchboard may 'filter' their calls.

Well they wont work 24 hours, unless they are on an operation. Will probably go through comms who will put a job on the system and forward it to their list. They have to acknowledge it and action it. Make sure you ask for a contact from the officer who is going to deal and make notes of the time you called and the operators name. This should encourage them to take due diligence!!!

You can lead a horse to water....

I try to do my bit but its not my field of expertise.
