Just got back off holiday from Burnham on Sea. on way down Disco (TD5) started squeeling after braking but was intermitant checked brakes seem ok whilest under vehicle noticed right rear tyre was scrubbed on inside only, other tyres seem ok (All pressures ok as well). Has anyone come across this before?. All help appreciated.

WOW .... treat this seriously as the Disco back wheels should always be running dead in line because they are on a beam axle.

Just about the only way for this to happen is a wheel bearing failure, and badly.

It might possibly be a tyre fault, but I doubt it, or a loose wheel .....

Just keep in mind that the real wheels should always be running dead parallel (no toe-in or toe-out) and dead vertical (no + or - camber).

Get a good bubble-level and check if the wheel stands perfectly vertical. Check both sides - if they are good, any error on one will be the same on the other - because the ground isn't level and the landy is leaning a tad.

Check this out as soon as possible I suggest.

Cheers CharlesY. Thought as much checked prices parts £180 + vat. Unfortunateley due to time factor its going into garage on Monday to be checked and MOT'd. luckly I know the garage owner hes going to check and let me know the damage.

Hi,

Are we saying it is wheel bearing failure?

It must be very bad to scrub a tyre.

Let me know - I have one the same - TD5 .... don't need bloody wheels falling off.

Had a call from garage earlier wheel bearings are fine. The tyre scrubbed has been changed for the spare. Apparently some tyres can go like that when they are nearing the end. Have seen it before with tyres on military lr, but not discos. Tyres on at present are Goodyear Wrangler, but will require changing soon. Squeeling was brake pistons sticking, All brakes been renewed. Vehicle to be picked up when finished tomorrow. A few other bits done as well. Cost including mot £250.
