Hi just bought a series 2a n/a diesel which had been for 8 years after renewal of fuel filters and cleaning of fuel pipe and tank but on start up the engine is revving very high that high I ad to switch off any idears much appreciated thanks

Could be an accelerator linkage jammed / rusted up or just needs re-adjusting, does it have a lever under the dash that controls the rev's for operating other things like farming equipment or what ever as it could be in a certain position and needs sliding back towards the passenger door, worth a look hope it helps :)

Hi

Hi thanks for your reply but unfortunately I have inspected the things that you are mentioned and everything seems to be ok I am a bit concerned it could be the fuel pump jammed ? But thanks

If the pump was jammed (not sure how that would occur) it wouldn't run at all. If the linkage is on the tick over screw, the other thing that would make it rev is sucking in oil. I'd check the compression and turn it over with the glows out to see if anything comes out.

On the lower dash in the cab is there an odd lever thingy?

If there is its a hand throttle which can be set to a specific speed when running the PTO, try changing that with her running.

Hi thanks for your replies check all the linkages all fine so I took the glow plugs out and turn the engine over it seems to me to have good compression ? So I put 2 pieces of paper in front of the holes and turned over again see photo the mist seemed to me to be clear ? I had a smell of the paper I could smell diesel ? Or could it be oil ?but I thought I had drain all the diesel out ? So I put the glow plugs back fill up with diesel and tried again but unfortunately there was no difference still revving high but what I did notice was a drip coming from the feed pipe to the pump were it is crimped to the couplin on the pump could that be causing the problem ?

Is it a 2.25 or 2.5 diesel
If 2.5 check and adjust the tickover this attachement should help.
Manual should show functions of the two levers on the 2.25.

Another thing you could try is checking the bulkhead is nice and tight or not rotted at the feet where it bolts to the chassis as with it being rod operated the bulkhead could be pushing on the rods, had it on a petrol one once, loose bulkhead but once tightened up it was ok :)
