I`ve got a 1991 Discovery 200tdi manual. i`ve just checked that all the external lights are working okay, and have come across the reversing lights don`t operate once in reverse gear. i`ve done the obvious choice and checked the lamps haven`t blown, and they appear okay, along with the connections. all the lights in the rear cluster work (indicators, brake, fog etc). its a series one discovery, and therefore doesn`t have the second cluster in the bumper.
any help is much appreciated as its due for an mot in 2 weeks!

it may be the operating switch. check it by shorting the 2 wires that goto the switch terminals. the lights should then work.
i think the switch is on the gearbox somewhere. cant remember where exactly.

Try holding the stick hard into reverse, if it works then, the switch just needs adjusted. If not, as above.

Our 300tdi has passed for years and the light only comes on if you hold it hard into reverse. I might fix it next summer!

as above mate the reversing switch is located under the car above the gearbox bellhousing, basically lie on your back just behind the front wheels crawl towards the middle of the car and look up, using a torch look for a switch about 2.5 inch long right under the car body, it will have two spade connectors coming off it with the wires coming off it, if there not there thats why it doesnt work.
hope it helps mate

Thank You, I`ll Try That Out Tonight, Probably Came Loose When I Bottomed Out At Cannock Chase Last Weekend.
