Hi all

2003 TD4

My reversing lights are not working - checked fuses - see ok but can't be sure I am checking the right one - the guide on the fuse box is not easy to work out - I think it is fuse 21 but check lots if others.

It happened give other day as well but they came back after I twiddled with fuses but not today.

Any common faults on these ?

Cheers

Hi Angeloc

I had the same issue on my '01 TD4, and it was narrowed to the reverse light switch in the gearbox. Just so happens it's the more expensive switch as well, at around 30 - 40 squid. If you do need to replace it, I found it easier to remove the nearside front wheel to get at it, as it's on the lower rear of the gearbox. There is a clip on the connector that needs to slide off in order for the plug to be removed :)

If it isn't this, then at least if it fails in the future you'll have a rough idea where it's at!:D

Thanks for this - I will have a look there first but it's too cold at the moment!!! May be a dodgy connector at the switch - fingers crossed.

The connection tends to be fine, it's the contactor inside the switch that fails (another one of the FL's inherent faults ;))

It's not too bad to get to, and with a long socket it comes out fairly easily......... but as you said, it's too cold at the mo!! A million candle power torch pointed backwards out of the drivers side should do for now................ :D

Ha ha Well I've got the million candle torch but now it's raining and cold - winter comes at such an inconsiderate time! Cheers

For some reason my reversing lights are working fine again! Ah well I might wait until the warm weather before getting under to check out the switch.

Interestingly a rear brake light bulb had blown so I replaced that but cannot think that it immediately cured the reversing light!

I seem to think the cold weather may have affected the reversing light because since a good motorway run and some standstill reverse selection to shake it about all seems to be well.

Hi I had this same problem and after reading on here went ahead with the replacement of the reverse light switch, also took the time and much effort to do gearbox oil change while I was down there, but 2 or 3 months later the lights and parking sensors have packed up again. Anyone on here have any other ideas what could be causing it or am I just forking out another £40 for a new switch. (53 plate manual td4)

have you checked earthing angeloc, especially if its raining and they are working now, or the fittings inside the bulb holder could be by taking them off you may have disturbed them

I changed the stop light bulb and at the same time sprayed all contacts with contact cleaner - all lights have worked since so fingers crossed it was simply a connection thing somewhere.
