rev counter

The rev counter is driven from the alternator. Either the alternator is faulty, or the connection onto the alternator is failing. Try wiggling the spade connector at the back of the alternator, or recrimp it first. If that doesn't help, take it to an autoelectrician and get them to check the alternator. It can probably be repaired cheaper than a new one.

Cheers!

+1

It's normally the W connector.

I'm guessing the engine is reving past what the display is stating if it is then yes it'll be alternator related if the engine is reving to what the display is stating then you have problems elsewhere

Hi.
Mine did same. (97 p reg). Crimped connector a bit and plugged it back in and it's been fine ever since.

Fingers crossed yours is a simple fix too.

Mine was doing that I took it out cleaned up the bush contact shaft and all connections and it's working sweet now before condemning the alternator give it a good clean took me about an hour
