i have a 54 reg range rover vouge td6, iv noticed that when im driving and i lift of the pedal the rev counter stays at around 1500 rpm and then slowly drops to normal around 500 - 600 rpm. is this normal/happening to any one else. i also noticed today that it jumped from 1000 rmp to around 1500rmp when i lifted of the pedal then dropped again to normal.

any ideas what the cause can be!!!!!

seems to drive ok..im getting on average 17mpg in town (london), im wondering if this may be the cause of my low mpg!

thanks

Your torque converter’s lock-up clutch has 3 modes of operation – off, continuous slip and fully engaged.
If the engine speed doesn’t change when you lift your foot off the accelerator then the lock-up clutch is fully-engaged. If it drops by a small amount then it’s in continuous slip mode. If the engine speed drops to tickover then the LUC is off.
This can be further complicated by any gear upshifts that take place when you release the accelerator. The transmission ECU controls the operation of the LUC and which mode it’s in depends on vehicle speed, throttle opening, selected mode (Drive, Manual, Sport), etc.
