I have searched the FAQ and have found that its possible that my Disco 2 may not have the equipment to fit a retro Diff Lock as this Disco has Traction Control and a simple imbossed L - N - H transfer gear stick.

Following the threads on this forum, I understand that my 52reg probably will not have the CDL hardware.

I am fortunate enough to have a brother who is a mechanic but wondered what the cost difference is between the various options that may/may not be available to retro fit a CDL and what the experiences of those that have been brave enough to carry out this project have been.

I know that this has been covered a number of times but I have not been able to establish a rough cost for such a project.

Thank you, Matt

There is a company called ashcroft transmissions, they manufacture and sell all the bits you will need. If you have the diff lock internals in your transfer box then the lever and bits you need cost £245 + VAT+ P&P. If you do not have the internals in your transfer box then you can buy them from ashcroft, they cost an additional £245 IIRC.
These prices are parts only and you will need to fit them yourself, they have instruction on thier site.

Ive just fitted the difflock lever on my 2000 Disco 2, very easy to do.

Have you had a look on the top of your transfer box to make sure that you defo dont have the spigot?? there was some overlap between the years so you may be lucky

Have a look here

www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock

And you will see what the spigot looks like. You can reach up from underneath the car and feel for it if you cant be arsed to take the centre console out.

Thank you Guys.

I will have a look at the top of the transfer box, well I will ask my brother if he would have a look as it appears that we will spending a bit of time under there anyway checking/changing fluids; disks and pads; cleaning and applying underseal and wax oil so one more added to the list should be OK.

Thanks for your help.

got all the bits off a 300tdi disco for nothing have seen gear/transfer boxes go on ebay for less than £150 (just like i did was going to convert the r380 fo my 90) the only thing about fitting a 300tdi transfer box to get the difflock is you will have to fit a switch in the cab for when you change from hi to low as the 300 box has no built in switch and without it the HDC wont work
