today, went to see a mate and his son, both LR nuts.
managed to blag a passenger side door "lock" from a scrapper they have there
and also a starting handle. The latter is currently standing in the vice
with "squirt" (WD40-substitute) on the swivelly handle in the rather forlorn
hope that it'll free off.
The son ('bout 14, ISTR) is currently custodian of a 1959 series II, runner
but a bit tired, chassis good in parts - main tubes iffy in places, rear
crossmember good but outriggers and other bits iffy. The chassis has been
repaired quite a bit - had a replacement gearbox crossmember a couple of
years ago, fro example. 2¼ petrol, SWB. Body is a full ragtop and quite
straight, with fairly new door tops. Parabolic springs.
I rather think it's really a re-chassis job, but it might be possible to get
a few more years from the current chassis.
I suspect that if someone wanted to pay for it, he'd sell it and add to his
series I fund...
