thers loads of life left in that yet:D my x member had two holes i could fit footballs through quick session on the welder couple of nice 3mm sheets the mot tester never even commented :D(was hoping hed say it was a good job:D)and it cost me an 1/8 of a new cross member always try the cheap route first :D

it all depends what you want and how much you want to spend. yeah it s not great, but a lick of paint to stop further rusting and it should pass an mot and should see you good for a bit. if you have the time and money then replace it for sure as then you don't have to worry about it.
i was just trying to say that it may be ok for a bit longer, but long term it will need doing. depends what your priority list looks like. mine has brakes, headlight, steering and engine at the top! :)

well £105 for an extended rear crossmember. mays well do the job properly.

anyone in merseyside who knows a good welder who will come out an put a price on the job for me? :)

haha yeah if i do a quick fix it will only be a temp job till i can go out an get a full replacment galvanised. but to get it galvanised it wil put it up to £200 is it worth getting it done?

well i suppose a galv one would be a worthwhile investment even though your pocket would diss agree(well mine wouldnt be too happy) :p id patch it for now ;) and focus on getting her on the road :D

if your gonna get a galvanised one then why spend £105 on the member and the best part of £100 having it fitted.
in my defense, this is £205 than i have so i would have no choice. If i had the choice i would indeed get it fixed. although i think the rest of the landy would fall to bits from shame.
actually in truth i would fabricate one myself and fit it and have over engineered foundations :)

i will just do the repair job then if its the easy option. it is just a temp fix after all for a month or 2 :D

cheers for the advice guys

christ! if its for a month or two just leave it!! or cover in underseal and mud for the mot

if i cover it in mud wont they just scrub away the mud and find a reason to fail the poor lanny. but im gunna try what i can to get this covered up an get on the road. adventures await!

Im currently looking for a restoration project myself - Hopefully I can get away with buying one without rust thou. Looks like your going to be busy with this one!

What you planning to do to it?

well im starting a landscape gardening for somthing to do on the weekends and maybe start a business in the near future. in the past i have just put the gear in the back of the punto an off i went but the poor little thing is getting wrecked :( theres plenty of good space in the back of defenders, plus when i baught the defender it come with a huge trailer. it wasnt till i join this forum when i started thinking about off roading. it looks like too much fun an i feel not taking it off road is such a waste haha

ok i was out working away today when i was cleaning up the rear springs i noticed a hole rusted into the shock absorbers on the back. i been lokoing about on the net and i was looking at getting these: DC5003 SUPER GAZ REAR SHOCK ABSORBER - DEFENDER/RRC/DISCOVERY 1 | Defender 1985>: Suspension | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

i was looking at getting the standard shock absorbers: Shock absorbers - heavy-duty - Defender 90/110 Heavy-duty oil filled shock absorbers Rear
