Guys.

I've always had really dull almost matt paint since I bought the LSE. Paintwork has always something I wanted to correct and am hoping to get it sorted late spring/early summer.

After a few trips to paintshops to see if it could be sorted I sent some decent upclose photos to the guys at White Details who replied saying the paintwork could probably be mopped and that I should be weary of over enthusiastic paintshops telling me otherwise.

I'm booking her in for a full mop polish at M&A Coachworks in a few months but I've come to think that maybe a respray might be my only option. After noticing some fecker had keyed my rear quarter I looked around the paintwork and there is a small circle where the paint has (I think) flaked off and there is almost no depth to it. Which leads me to think that there probably isn;t enough paint to cut.

SO..... My question is: Can anyone recommend and garages in/near london who are more reasonable on paint jobs. Only need outer panel spray, but the quotes I've had have ranged from 2,500 - 7,500. It must be possible to get it done cheaper than that!

Cheers

not without it being a private job.......the average respray (blow over) costs around that due to the prep time, the motor will have to be flatted, any defects (like gouges) will have to be corrected, then they will have to remove any rubber seals, trim and badges, then mask up, only then can they start spraying......................

I can be close to anywhere really, live north central.

I know what your saying G-Man, but it's just I remember someone saying somewhere that they got their RRC resprayed for about 1K, so just thought maybe I'm going to the wrong places.

It's a bitch as you've got to take into consideration what the car is worth and how long the paintwork will stay in immaculate condition around London whilst I park on the street and drunks idiots with door keys are around...

my brother in law is a panel beater by trade and does a lot of insurance work .

has a garage in south benfleet .

depends on how much you want to spend he does resprays and mopping .

you can take it down to him and discuss what you want doing and how much your looking at spending .

The trouble with resprays is that there is such a vast range in price due to quality.

You could have a car blown in for around a grand if in the same colour but you will notice this and it won't be durable.

The real money comes in when you decide to have it done properly, stripped, prepped, painted, painted again, baked.

I would hazard that the £7k figure could be reached if you opted for a fancy colour.

For a Classic, 3.5-4K is the price for a topnotch paint job that will be durable, deep and give good lustre.

Your next problem is finding the people who will do the right job for that money.

If you're in North or West London then give AutoAudio a call. They do exceptional work and more importantly have their own spray shop.

When I brought mine it had suffered some vandalism so part of the deal was I got it sorted by a body shop of my choice. It was already prepped to a fashion but they painted both sides for £600 (Bangers). Its solid black so probably a bit dearer for a metallic. They are in Rickmansworth (2 mins from Junction 17 M25) I was well chuffed with the result and your more than welcome to take a look at my Classic to see there handy work. PM me if you want to take a look.

might just need it re laquering, not the base coat touching at all...(not seeing it ,cant tell)

I found this thread this when doing a Google search to find out about the same thing for my Classic. Did you get it done in the end Pigfarmer? Any recommendations?`
