Help required , I have replaced rear hub bushes and tie rods and the suspension heights are all over the place.
Took the car for alignment and camber on rear offside was not adjustable due to the bolt too tight to slacken . I did this myself and changed the top/upper bush bolt and nut for a new one . Took the car for a run and the suspension jacked itself up to as far as it could. I lowered it via IID tool. Thinking the geometry was out after new rear fittings would sort this , I took it back for alignment and well, that didn't work . I managed to set the height to the normal ride , but once on the alignment ramp it jacked up again.
So if the console setting persists in using the full height and more , then what do I do. Have the new bushes changed the standard ride heights that much to confuse the BCM that I need to reset everything and how?
From the read outs on a Hunter system the front tracking is also well out , so confusing the standard even more. Unfortunately the rears need to be adjusted first.
Have I been on completely the wrong tracking settings for too long. It's definitely no fun too drive at the moment .
Help appreciated please!

Sorry , that's meant to be Resetting height on the title!

Replacing bushes and tie rods should not affect ride height as you havent disturbed the height sensors.

The eas system doesnt care if the toe or camber is out, it only measures the height of the lower wishbone relative to the subframe.

If the height sensor travel has gone over a dirty bit of the internal track, it could have picked up dirt on the wiper arm, this can cause misreading of height. This can happen when the suspension travel has exceeded its usual movement, such as when jacking up the body and the suspension is left to dangle at full travel....which it rarely does, meaning the internal wiper arm of the sensor has gone over a part of the track that it never usually does and as such that bit of the track is dirty and can cause erronous readings.

Sorry 2004 L322 . Thanks for your reply , I have had the vehicle up with suspension hanging, so that is probably upset everything , ... A good call !
I also removed rear sensor arms to get at and renew the tie rods .

So now I have adjusted every height to the measurements given in the IID tool , 494 mm fronts 483 rears. I have been for a run and it seems to be happier, no traction abs throwing up on corners etc.
What Iam monitoring is the heights are changing as the vehicle sits . I suspect one of the corners are leaking , the rest going down to compensate....self levelling I presume.

So now before this alignment can take place, I have a front air spring going dow , is there a way of removing it to check the pipe fitting under pressure as I suspect it may be that as the bag was a new one last August. Is it possible to leave the suspension at normal height, remove the battery to lock all air lines and jack up the body letting the suspension Hằng , then remove the strut checking the lines that way ?

Yeah not really helping me there .i can jack it up but was wanting to find out if I can remove a strut so far to test the connection at the top whilst still under pressure .

If your car was previously significantly out of alignment your tires would show that very, very quickly.

Are you certain that the arms on the four height sensors are all pointing towards the “outside” of the corners they’re mounted on?

Sometimes during suspension tear downs one or more height sensor arms get “flipped” and incorrectly point to the center.

If you’re not aware of that, you wouldn’t necessarily notice as you put it all back together.

Yes , thanks for reply .
The there was no apparent wear before the bushes were replaced along with rear tie rods , so there was a good reason to align the tracking after that .
I think that while the arms were hanging has probably upset the position sensors.I also had both rears off to clear the work on the tie rods, and cleaned their mountings and in hind site this has seriously upset the readings.
I have reset the corners with IID using the measurement from the centre to wheel arch and everything has settled down a bit . The traction , HDC and susp. Inactive comes on a sharp left handed , but I'm hoping tracking and alignment will sort that .
I also have one of the susp. corners going down which recovers on start up . That I hope I can find after alignment.

Can I ask is it possible to partially remove the front strut on the 2004 L322 without letting the pressure off so that I can detect any leaks from the pipe connections

Ok took the inner wheel arch of and tested for leaks under access height. I havent removed the strut at this point but tested the pipe connection and the bag.....Nothing obvious.
So took a look at the top of the strut mount and poured some leak detection on the mount through and onto the nut and surrounding area, and found a small leak going on . Tighten up the top mount and it still leaked , so slackened it untill larger amounts of air came out and retightened hoping that if there is any dirt trapped at the seal on top of the damper and top mount it might shift.Looking better already as no leak is detected . This would have to be confirmed in the morning and raise the pressure again to normal.

Can anyone direct me to an illustration of the seal arrangement . I got a feeling that there is a different arrangement for the top washer , according to the arnott assembly video it sits with the lip uppermost

Swapped the top washer to sit with the lip facing up , it doesn't show any air leaks , however it is still dropping at the front.
