Well I'm not posh enough to comment here often...but I thought I'd share some news on a P38 i sourced from a member here and shipped on to Portugal a year or so ago....

It is being used as a defender!

Here's the comment I just got on facebook..I feel both proud and a tad surprised

''Hi Mark..car's gone through Portuguese inspection and is now legally registered in Portugal untill January 2013. We have pads for the headlights, but they'll have to be replaced by new lamps. But not untill Jan -13. Down here it's been named"the Beast", and has already pulled huge logs out of the river. - We love that car. Please stay arisen, Mark - Hi from Jan Nissen''

So the moral of the story must be...get your P38 off the road and into a river

There's lots of Portuguese guys offroading their P38s and putting them to good use. Apparently that's not so popular up North

In wet mud the Defender is lighter and is therefore better for the majority of the time in soggy old blighty, of course it's a much more reliable wader too given the lack of electronics, over rocks in dry dusty Portugal where axle articulation may become the deciding factor the tables may well be turned! Of course we'd be talking about fairly standard cars here. Nobody takes the P38 off road coz they don't want to scratch it, with the right tyres they are very, very good off-road - in some circumstances better than a Defender. Same could be said for the L322 and Disco. Obviously the Defender has the best approach and departure angles. Freelander/Evoke aside, all Land Rover products cut it when the going gets tough provided they are wearing the right boots.
