Replacing the Integrated Head Unit (IHU) and updating CCF?

Hi there.

A few months ago My Touch Screen Display started rebooting itself to the extent that it got caught in a loop. It would reboot, start up for about 20 seconds and then reboot again. I took it into a garage and they determined that it was what they called the Gateway Module that needed replacing. Based on the cost (and the fact that I didnt fully like the way they worked) i decided to see if I could do it myself. They left the Gateway Module out so that I could find a like for like replacement.

The part number for the item they had taken out was VUX500480 - which looking at the workshop manual appears to be the Integrated Head Unit (or IHU).

Long story short, I ordered a replacement IHU (second hand from EBay) and am now starting the work to fit it into the car. I’ve got as far as taking the dash off and have removed the Touch Screen Display. I’m pretty sure the IHU fits behind the Touch Screen Display.

Before I put it in and put everything back together, I wondered if anyone could tell me what needs to be done once it has been fitted? I understand that the MOST system is all secured by the serial numbers of the various components within the entertainment system and that if you replace one of those, and the new serial number is not known, everything will basically stop working. From my research it looks like I need to update the CCF file with the new serial number of the IHU.

Is that correct? And if so, do I need to keep the IHU accessible to access the serial number or interact with it in anyway? Or can i put everything back together and both read and set the new serial number to the CCF via the OBDII port?

And finally - although I suspect I know the answer here - is there a simple way for me to read and update the CCF without purchasing an expensive diagnostics tool?

Yet another who has failed to read the first post in this section.
Having looked at his profile, he has failed to read a lot more than that. It's a freebie he owns

Also meant to add, if the op is trying to add a most system there is a huge amount of work involved if nothing is there to start with

Like a D3 touchscreen works with diagnostics?

The software will be stored in each ecu , as an average in my D3 I’ve got 26 x ecus , each controlling a component of the vehicle

The touch screen will only give basic data, screen wont give fault codes, is just part of the MOST system

My gap iid has the facility to be able to turn things on and off in the CCF section , cheaper ones can’t

The MOST system is basically a large ring main where the ecus / components are daisy chained together , if one doesn’t work it can knock the entire system out, like xmas tree lights , the Instrument display is one of the most crucial items within the system

Most stands for Media Oriented Systems Transport

Hope that makes sense and reading ur question correctly

Makes BECM sound easy :)

Thanks Gary

Indeed am very jealous , I’ve only got a basic understanding of the system fitted to the D3

Was one of the main reasons I bought the base model as it hasn’t got the MOST system fitted, none of all the toys

I just retrofitted , front electrics seats , D4 steering wheel , D4 steering wheel stalks , T max dual batteries

That’s all I wanted , haven’t even got Bluetooth fitted yet , no sat nav as I’m happy with my Tom Tom

Plus the higher u go up the models the dearer the insurance is, mines group 33

They are not cars as a means of transport anymore but image enhancing toys loaded with expensive unnecessary gizmos that are almost impossible to fix for most people.
