replacing rear shock absorber bushes

as the title says i'm changing these after the trailing arm sheared from the axel it also totaled the shocker bushes and trailing arm bush that bolts to the chassis. My question is, when replacing the top bush on the shocker, do i just undo the nut with the large washer on, then move the shock to the side.Take the bush out and replace with the new one, or do i need to take the whole shock off. Maybe a daft question i know. Its a 1995 disco 300 tdi

yes if its a 2 piece rubber bush. might be bit more tricky if its 1 piece, might have to take it off to fiddle about
 
tis the one piece top bush and also have the lower bushes to go with it for both sides. I've had the disco only 3 wks and it feels like i've spent more time under it than i have my misses lol.

Give it a few month's and the Mrs. will think you've got another woman when all your doing is innocently fiddling with your Disco:D ... problem is we end up spending more cash/time on our's LR's then the Mrs:eek:
 
tell me about it but its her spending the money on it not me lol. Her wish list: side steps,rear step ok need them got four kids. Tinted windows,bigger wheels,to name put a few
 
I'd take the shocks off and have a good look at them. If they're 15 years old they probably need renewing. You're better spending your money (or even hers) on decent mechanics rather than tinted windows and posey wheels.
