I am having to replace engine on my freelander td4 as crankshaft would appear to have gone. While i'm doing this i was wondering if theres anything else i'd best do while the engines out rather than get caught having to take it out for some other job that may crop up later.
I would welcome any comments cheers

if it's a manual gearbox the most obvious thing is replace complete clutch and slave cylinder, also change the thermostat, drive belts, water pump and if there has been an oil pressure issue consider replacing the turbo.

don't know if you're planning on splitting the head from the block, but might be worth taking glow plugs and injectors out and refitting, just to make it easier later if they fail

wise man..

i would remove the head and rework the valve seats and do Hg etc.removing everything you can unbolt from the engine and refitting will save you.

personally i would bin it and get a landcruiser.
