Replacing air con condenser on P38

Hi all!

I got a hiss from the engine front, with greenish oily depot where the cooler is. It looks definitely I have to replace the A/C condenser. Could you please give me the reference for a P38 2.5 TD (BMW engine) built in 1998? Also what are the other hardware to be installed at the same time? Dryer? Here is the reference I got, but could you confirm it? Thanks!!

Condenser STC3679
Dryer AWR1374

Hi, I've got a rr 2.5 diesel from 1998. Just replaced cracked radiator and cleaned out the intercooler. My air con condenser is rotten. Can i just take it out to get more air into the intercooler and radiator? Am guessing the blower will still work on a warm day. Noticed another little rad under the intercooler. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks,
Al

When I got my car, the A/C condenser & fans were missing altogether, so technically yes you can remove it. The blower still blows, but no more cold air obviously.

Not sure, but the smaller rad could be a gearbox oil cooler... I have no dealings with the diesel version, sorry.

And welcome along, they are all mad as several boxes of frogs on here, but it's an awesome forum :D

hey there, is it an auto?
if auto your gearbox cooler is behind your bumper low down on the right.( looking at the car).
the small long rad is your engine oil cooler!

New ac condensers are not expensive I think I payed under £70 of fleebay and then go to kwikfit for regas if they cant get it to work its free.

I'd replace it. You can get a proper Hella one from any local factors for about £110. It conditions the air, strangely enough! So it takes all the damp out of the interior. These cars do not like damp! Means it won't be iced up on the inside in the winter too.

I forgot the diesel likes an oil cooler

I went to the local dealership, Macrae & Dick Land Rover...
Address: 61 Harbour Rd, Inverness IV1 1UF
Phone: 01463 716716
Although, there is also Hamish Grant at http://www.inverness4x4centre.co.uk/ (wanted parts locally because although ebay is great, it's a pain in the hoop waiting ages and if there's a problem, it's a trip to the Post Office....). and there is also www.davidsonandmcmillan.co.uk Unit 6, no4 Walker Road, Inverness, 01463 241914. Obviously Macrae & Dick can be expensive, but if you tell them you can get it off the net for whatever price, is there any way they can come close to the price, I tell you they will try. ;)

Airbags for my car, 1200 quid  Ask if they can come down a bit, 867...Argue I can get it online for 300 delivered was told to give him an hour. An hour later, an email saying they can supply them tomorrow for 354 quid  Job done. Dunlops too.

But for sheer in depth knowledge, Hamish Grant is your man.

Do i take this to be suspension bags? If so you have taken one up the bottom. http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/springs-dunlop-isl004-p-628.html and http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/spring-fitting-full-isl003-p-5234.html is all you need for £230.00 or so. Usually next day delivery maybe a couple of days more at the top of Jocklandia.

Everything is more expensive up here o_O

Ebay sellers also add a premium to postage because apparently, I live on an island! I agree'd with one of them, said "Aye, same island as you mate, it's called Britain :p"

Island are not Ebay, postage is free on anything over £50.00 and if they did add a bit would it come to difference in price of £115.00. You have been suckered. Your arse will be sore for the rest of the week.

I'm sure I dont know what you mean. I once watched my wife poach an egg ... it was very boring.

So was being a Bailiff :D

I saw a poacher once, but he had wings or something, took off like a bloody rocket

Still, it was interesting, met some clever blokes and a thick **** for brains who punched me because he was hard  Mind you, the SAS guy asked him why he did it and if he was so hard, how come I was still standing looking at him the way a scientist studies and insect :D:p

Last year, I met a guy in charge of a building site (I was operating the boom lift) and we got talking, he remembered me from way back then

Name of Inge. Know him??
