hi
some toe rags tried to break into my mates 1999 range rover.they've damaged the ign lock with a screwdriver. can i just fit a new one or does it have to be programmed? had a faulty switch with the wifes megane and had to swap the key, card reader, ecu and fuse box together from a scap car because they're all programmed to each other. wasn't sure if the range rover is the same. thanks

I believe it should just swap over....

The Coding for the immobiliser is handled by the RF Reciever by the rear quarter window...

The Ignistion switch has a coil in it that excites the Remote - the remote then sends a signal to the RF receiver which is checked by the BeCM - if the signal code is correct the engine will start....

:welcome2: btw....

Thanks for the replys. So will it need a complete lock and key set and reprogramming?? Is there no way to buy a set from a breakers (maybe with an ecu etc) and fit that???

The Lock ECU is the BeCM - this is the brains of the car and you really don't want to be going down that road, as you can't just swap a BeCM from one vehicle to the next - it needs to be setup and then synced to all the systems on the car....

This is why the P38 is nearly impossible to nick without the key....

You can change the Ignition barrell and the Drivers Door Lock to one from a scrapper - obviously with the match keys....

Take the blade out of the original key, and take the blade out of the 'new' key and swap them over....that way the old coded electronics will still talk to the car, and the blades will match the 'new' ignition switch....

(now all I have to do is wait for Datatek to correct me :D:D:D)

You can order a new lock barrel to match your key from a stealer, insurance should pay.
Otherwise do as SV8 suggests but it will de-value the car if you want to sell it.
