Hi guys, I posted a thread last week about replacing the roof on my 110, which was very helpful and I have decided that whilst I have the roof off I'm gonna replace the rotten body cappings on my 110 station wagon at the rear with some shiny galvanised ones like Series have fitted and early 90s/110s. Can anyone help me out as to what is involved in replacing the body cappings? How do I remove the old ones - rivets etc. and do the new ones simply rivet on? Do I need to buy some new seals/bolts etc before hand to replace any knackered old ones? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ah think it's just a case of drillin' the rivets out. Use a big drill bit and stop when the head comes off the rivet, knock whats left through, that way ye don't knacker yer holes. Replace yer cappin's, stick on a new seal then pop yer roof and sides back on;) :D

I saw some nastily rusted body cappings on a relatively new (ie. younger than 10) 90 yesterday. Don't know why the stopped galvanising them! Mine are galved and painted, pluss they've got hooks which will no doubt come in handy for something (I have a station wagon not a pickup)

yours will have bin a pick up at one point then pos, mines used to have the hooks as well and it has the galvied cappin's. the other bus, which is the same year, started out as a hardtop and has ungalvied cappin's (which are rotten);)

I had thought that and half fancy turning it back into a pickup! I've been looking into those fabric truck cab soft backs on exmoor trim. Moor to it than just the hood though like bits on top of doors and windscreen etc.

If ye're thinkin' of puttin' it back pos, then ye'll pobably need the single cab and the sticks for the hood. A 'bit' like this....

Cheers :)

There's a shorter one which is basically like a canvas truck cab back available from exmoor trim (I can't copy the address cos its javascript within a frame!), which would look quite nice!

I've just removed the body cappings on my 90 because they were rotten It is just a case of drilling the rivets out use 4mm drill bit and they'll come out no problem the one on mine was glued solid though and had to be prised off with a crowbar, once all the rivets were out.
