hi, only a quick note as it may (hopefully) be of use to others

after a lot of searching about for a decent locksmith to cut a replacement key for my disco 2 (the key blade dropped out of the fob somewhere and luckily I had a spare) I found an online store (www.keysinthepost.com) that cut it from a picture that I emailed to them.... yes I was sceptical too but had a good chat with the owner and a few emails and decided to go for it.
£16 (inc postage) and 2 days later and my new key arrived and worked perfectly!!
Shame I’d already wasted £20 on key cutting on a crappy blank from eBay..l. Live and learn

Anyway hope this helps someone else

I had a crappy blank from e-bay and it was a little too thick so cut badly and didn't fit.
I purchased a more expensive version and it cut first time at our local key cutting cobbler shop.

Yes that was my issue initially. But at £16, it was cheaper (and easier) than a "better" blank and the cost of getting it cut again

When we bought our house we had no key for the patio doors. The locksmith wiggled a blank in the lock then filed a bit. He repeated the process until he had a working key.

I used MEK ( methyl-ethyl-ketone aka butanone ) to fix the blade in place. It is a solvent that melts the two plastic surfaces so they weld together.

Yes, I've used these a couple of times and everything has been faultless. I had the original key tag so they did it just from that number. Highly recommend them.

I was a little more uncouth and just used superglue, but same idea I guess. Didn't want to lose another one!

I had a useless local cobbler cut 2 keys from blanks and he ruined both by taking too much off. Ended up taking the casing apart and fabricating the old blades to match the new key casing with a bit of drilling and lots of careful filing. Lesson learned there.
