Hi all-----I have had an interesting time going through the old posts on ignition locks but cannot find the answer to my question. If anyone out there can help me I would be very grateful. I need to replace the ignitions lock on my
Jap import es. Rimmers tell me as I am auto I need a lock that includes the transmission lock and the whole thing costs just under £400! Is it not possible just to replaced the lock barrel? I have done it on a BMW so why not a disco 1? Any ideas? Many thanks

Yes it is.
The lock is part the key barrel to stop the key being removed unless the gearbox is in Park, it's a Japanese thing for autos as I have the same thing in a Honda I drive, NAS autos have a similar setup. So yes the barrel can be changed

Or Install a standard UK spec lock complete and u then can remove the key in any auto selector position, just insulate the spare wires.

Discool-----when you say I can use a standard uk lock is this
The circa £35 thing we see all over eBay or do I need one specifically for uk autos. Also, if I can change the barrel(and obviously the keys) do you know who could do that if I get the lock out first
Many thanks
