It shouldn't matter if the fob is dead. Put the key in the lock and turn it. As for the immobiliser it wouldn't be a terribly good security system if it was that easy to bypass.

"Like a lot of other people it seems I bought my Freelander with only one key. If you search E-Bay you will find a seller who sells LR blanks complete with the Philips 46 transponder for a reasonable price. The seller is in China"

have you got a screw driver n socket set?
probably be able to take it to pieces and sell these for more than a complete one is worth
thought LR could supply a new key based on vehicle numbers
