Replacement footwell?

Hi there folks, finally got round to sorting my rusty bits, sending bits off for powdercoating etc. Iv got a pretty nice hole coming in my passenger footwell, on the angled piece at the bottom of the bulkhead. Just wondered if replacement panels can be bought? or does it need patching? or alternatively cutting out, sealing and chequer bolting over?

Footwells can be bought fairly commonly and though the job of replacement is quite straightforward it is quite involving and time consuming.

I finally got my drivers side footwell out yesterday after drilling out about 60 spot welds. Bulkhead is out of car too to make things easier.

You could patch....... all comes down to how pretty and how long lasting you want the repair to be.

I reckon most people buy the replacement footwells then chop them up to use as fitted patches. Not a bad way of doing things.
 
cheers for the help, not planning on taking my bulkhead out so you think it would be easier to patch? maybe a bit tricky to get at with the bulkhead etc in place

Best take the wings off and the floors out if you can, not a difficult job. The wings can be lifted away enough to repair the bulkhead without disconnecting lamps and stuff. Depends where the worst of the rot is though.
 
what i'm a bit miffed about is the fact that all these repair panels are just single skinned. to do a proper job you still have to make a second skin. bit of a con if you ask me....
 
I'm guessing they put a second skin down because you're foot is strong, the pedal offers resistance & the only thing holding the pedal boxes in place is otherwise just a piece of sectioned 1.2mm sheet..... just a bit flimsy
 
If you opt to buy new footwells rather than plate over, make sure you get defender ones and not series as they are different and series won't fit properly.

My local Landy place flogged me series ones and then blagged that defender ones aren't available and you have to mod the series ones Blah blah...... Its Bull****, yuo canget proper defender ones.
