Does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement for my 2.25 diesal, my mate say's that a 2.5 N/A diesal from a 90 or 110 between 1985 to 1988 is my best bet (the fact he has 2 within this range make me suspicios of his motives). Also would prefer a better gearbox any suggstions.

depends how much work yer wanna do and how much yer wanna spend fer yer injun.
yer g/box is limited to a series box of which the series 2 box is romoured to be the strongest. yer can't stick a defender box in it unless yer swap yer front axle which is a shed load of work

series 3 box was not as strong as they had to make space for the synchros. but with a low power engine (early landrovers ) its not a big factor. Its a bit easier to drive with synchro box, but with experience the difference between a full synchro box and a part synchro box is not that great. As slob sez it depends how much you want to invest in view of how long you intend to keep your landy. If its a long term thing then go 200tdi. Or another idea would be a perkins prima unit JMHO

Everyone always wobbles on about how strong a 2 box is compared to a 3. I run me V8 thru' a Series 3 box & I dun't go particularly easy on it & it's fine. I just pause a little going up or down the box & feed the power in if I'm feeling kind! ;)
