Jason, you've got it mate. That's what I've done, A decent after market USB or iPod radio and just scotch gripped it to the speaker leads via a new connector. I can put the original unit back with no difficulty.

Donboon, so you have connected a pocket Ipod/MP3 that you have lets say stuck to the dash and still have the original unit in place?
What about power? Batteries?

Hi Jason2
Story is my Landy 300tdi is from Japan. It has the Radio/cassette with CD changer under the drivers seat but the radio is tuned to receive Japanese frequencies. It had a Frequency shifter fitted which allows me to get UK frequencies but the display on the radio gives the wrong readings. Difficult to tune into your favourites if you cant see the frequency. So I tried fitting a standard Kenwood but found that the conventional euro plugs on the rear didn't operate the speakers. I traced all the cables and found that the speaker euro socket on the rear of the head unit actually went to the dash controls. In the end I found the Amplifier behind the glovebox and traced the four speaker cables coming out of the large plug. I scotch gripped the eight speaker wires to a new speaker euro plug. the power plug is OK. I removed the plug with all the scotch connectors on it from the amplifier so it doesn't short out and fitted the new speaker plug to the new kenwood radio. All works fine except that I haven't bought a replacement crossover unit for the rear door speakers yet. As for fitting an iPod or Mem Stick the choice is yours. There are plenty of good head units that will replace the OE head unit so long as you modify the plug. Some systems have fly leads to connect into the iPod with full iPod control and will power up and charge the iPod. Those with USB can either have a socket in the Head Unit facia or use a fly lead. I didn't fancy messing with my OE head Unit and I saw no point in using the CD changer under the seat when I've got a 30GB iPod. Hope this explains all.
