Hi Guys, I've got a 1995 P38 4.6 HSE and got the "key fob battery low" waring light on the dash, so I bought new batteries and the key fob won't sync and the dash board warning states engine immobilised pres fob or add code. Tried pressing the fob each button and both together without joy. Don't have the code for the door (found a 4 digit code hand written in the old manual and tried that but got no beeps and nothing happened; it could be the radio code for all I know though as only owned it since Jan). It is now sat on my drive and cannot be used. Any advise greatly apreciated guys.

Thanks

I had the same problem. Does the LED on the fob light up when you press a button ? Mine didnt, i had the thing apart lots of times and after leaving it for a few mins it decided to work. The only thing i can think it was is a poor conection to the battery.

all my lights in the car and elecy windows work so don't think its the battery. another site mentioned fuses 13 and 15 but these also seem fine.

Try inserting key in door lock, press the lock button, turn key to the right and hold for a second or two then turn key back still holding button remove key and release button, it works on my P38.
If that never worked try doing the same thing but the other direction and try hold the unlock button .
This trick has never failed me, works every time.
Hope you have the same luck

i had this yesterday, i replace the cars battery and the fob batteries, tried to do the eka in the door but nothing happened, i got in the car, turned the ignition to the second point and just kept pressing the buttons.....hey presto my cars now running...altho mines a 99 so the setup will be different.

Go to your local landy dealer with your log book and ask for your EKA code, no charge. Inserts key in locked door, turn 4 to the left then to the right starting with the first digit of your code, left for the 2nd, right for the 3rd, left for the 4th and turn right to unlock and mobilise.

Hi Guys, thanks for the help, I got the code and tried entering it in the door (did the 4 times turning first) before entering the code, did this many times and waited for 30 mins as per the manual but no joy still. Then tried mk1astramad's suggestion for about 15 minutes on and off and still no bloody joy. I've done everything suggested in the manuel and acted on all the advice given. What do I do now, will the AA be able to help or am I screwed!!!

Did you try my method, ? i have used that method on eleven P38's and its always worked, canged my key batteries 5 or 6 times, changed the vehicle's batteries and never had to use the EKA code and i have had my Range Rover 11 years

I've had several EKA engine immobilised incidents. First time I was in such a flap with worried Mrs & kids in tow that despite having the correct code, I didn't follow the sequence correctly. Called the AA out and the patrol did it straight away. Second occasion I couldn't get the key to sync but had the spare with me and it worked on that key. Git home and tried the usual key and all was ok again. Fkd if I know but I keep both keys with me now just in case.

I'm sure you've done this over and over, but the EKA procedure needs to be followed precisely unless you are using Cossie David's method. Get someone else to do the task while you read out th instructions. You never know.....

Hi Cossie David, i had the car battery disconnected about three months ago and did what you recommended then and it worked fine for the re-sync (did not need the EKA Code) but this time it's just not working. Not had my car battery disconnected this time just the key fob batteries. Very frustrating. Thanks for your advice though, I will try it again.

Hello, when you enter eka code you have to turn the key to the rear of the car first , then back to the centre, then enter the code , once you have entered the code ,then turn the the once more to unlock,, that should let you access the car and start it , if not try code 1515 , following the previous process , i'm pretty sure this is a generic code which helped me out , but you can check this for your self on rangerover.net web site. hope this helps rob

Sorry to hear that, thease bloody vehicles are like horses not 1 behaves the same as the other.
I will watch this thread with great interest

I had a similar problem after disconnecting my battery, and this worked for me.............

I followed the instructions re holding the key in the lock position.........nothing.......so I had a play about and this worked.

Unlock the car with the other key, then insert the duff key into the ignition to position 2, I pressed the unlock and lock buttons..........not sure what order, just played about, and got the car to start.

Once start, I took the key out, got out the car, closed the dorr, then pressing the "lock" button, inserted the key into the lock, and turned to the lock position keeping the button pressed and waiting at least 3 seconds, the car locked and beeped. Keep the button pressed and withdraw the key.

I then pressed the "unlock" button, insert into the lock keeping it pressed turn the key to the unlock position and hold for three seconds, still holding the button withdraw the key and hey presto!!

Let me know how you get on

Good luck
