What sort of a job is it to change my 1995 standard p38 radio-cassette player for a modern non landrover radio-cd player.

If you have the Alpine radio/casette like me, it's just plug and play.
There are two narrow horizontal slots at the top of the unit. You need to slide a flat object ( I used two narrow kitchen knives) inside both slots to unlock the radio from the sleeve.
Unplug the radio/cass and plug in the new one :)
Just don't use the small amp plug!

none problematic really mate, ive replaced mine with a ripspeed dvd / cd jobbie from halfords. was up n running within 5 mins, only things i wasnt keen on was the side bits. You can buy small blankers that fill both sides of your new radio but i found halfords wanted stupid prices for em, so just left it.. conection wise none needed on mine, pluged straight out & in with the new.

Ah yeah, but don't you lose the steering controls, control of the CD changer in the boot and the speakers in the doors can be quieter because the amps for each speaker aren't getting enough juice?

Not being rhetorical; reading those things elsewhere stopped me changing mine and frankly it'd be cheaper to replace than repair give it costs about £70 to fix, but a half decent CD head unit is available for less if you shop carefully. My display has gone and the bloody thing randomly cuts in and out on hot days...?

If you have the original unit it should be Clarion, and is as said, a simple swap. Out with old, in with new. AMP/CD/Steering controls only come into it IF they were fitted in thefirst place

Thanks for all your help. The one i am replacing is the origional radio- cassette with no steering wheel controls. it has been said that my 95 DT is one of the very first as it is very basic without a lot of things people mention. i was wondering before i start if the landrover main plug at the rear of the radio cassette will be the same as the modern type plugs or will i need an adaptor cable/socket.

Have you not got the CD changer under the passenger seat?

Got the old unit out it is a phillips radio-cassette manufactured in 94 (it has the land rover logo on the cassette door) so i expect it is the origional. Looking at the backs of the two units I will need an adaptor cable to fit to the new radio-cd which my local accessory shop have in stock. There is no cd changer under the seat. Again thanks for the help.
