Repairable or replace? And anyone know a mobile welder in West Yorshire?

New dumb irons are about 60 quid I think.

I can't really see, but have you been over them with a hammer and a punch to really see how bad they are? It appears the metal is wafer thin on some of yours. Some angles it looks repairable
 
Just been into the snow and given it a good knock and to be fair it all seems pretty solid apart from the holey ends. I'm just get quotes to repair.
I agree new is better but as the budget is super tight it may have to wait for the lottery win I am due soon.
 
I'm in Brighouse HD6. Just had a quote of £140 to repair!

More I look more its just the holes in the ends that are bad - the weight bearing bit seems solid.
 
33 quid each for a chassis leg from MM probably worth replacing the lot. Possibly with a nice Defender. (only joking)
 
I see you have this up for sale on ebay now.Chassis doesn't look too bad compared to the one I have thrown away on mine.I was able to fold it in half by hand!Buy a welder and give it a go yourself.I did just that in 1987 to repair my VW Beetle and have never had to pay for welding since.
 
Thanks for the messages - the Landy isnt for sale - thats the original ad I bought it from a few weeks ago and the original seller hasn't taken the ad off.

I'm going to YouTube some welding tutorials as I have always fancied having a go and the money I spend on someone else to do it could buy a welder.
The more I look at the ends the more I'm happy that they are solid enough just missing the ends. They have had a little work in the past.

Plenty to think about but the snow is giving me the time as cant do much this weekend apart from try find some space in my garage!

Standard British garage you have there mate. Time to chuck a lot of the crap out and get a decent workspace. Getting stuck in with a welder will save over the long term and you will tackle any job.

Just practice, practice, practice. Whenever you see a bit of old scrap nick it and weld stuff to it. You will see scrap everywhere; noticing it at the sides of roads etc :)
 
Unfortunately it can't be moved at the moment - no brakes and v suspect tyres.... and steering suspect.....and most suspect.

Looking to do reasonably soon weather permitting as looking to crack on.
Have just bought 2 new axles with working brakes to collect next weekend.

At least theres a little more room in my crappy garage.Put the pickup bed on 2 small trolleys so now can wheel around as I wish. Looking at getting the underside of that cleaned and rustproofed once the weather gets warm enough to use the products.

Clarke mig welders are a good start, i have a 151te and it's all you would need for a landy pretty much. I got mine from ebay for cheap and spent a small amount on service parts, it's great and easy to use. Don't bother with a buzzbox arc welder as they can be awkward to use and have short duty cycles. You'll need to weld some bulkhead steel at some point so you'll need a mig to do a half tidy job unless your well versed in arc welding. A buzzbox arc can be super cheap tho so if you have no cash it will do a chassis repair ok ish.
Welding is great fun :D, your local college may do evening classes? Loads on YouTube as you say but practice makes perfect, use an old car door or something (steel not ally!)

was thinking more of trailering to the shop.
then you could weld it with a bit of tuition.

i could bring the arc set to you, but its a bit cold outside..
and the mig uses a big bottle...
