My defender is ten years old done 60,000 miles and i just get the feeling that my shocks and springs are getting a little bit tired. quite a bit of body roll and i think it could do with being renewed some time soon.

My question is replace my shocks and springs with genuine landrover equivalents or put some nice shiny silver terrafirma all terrain shocks and springs on.

The main reason i say terrafirma is because they will look smart. Obviously though if they dont offer better results than the ome its a daft idea.

Can anyone shed some light?

The terrafirma are gas filled are these quicker to respond and provide less spine breaking when hitting pot holes on the road and speed bumps.

Surely you shouldn't be "hitting" pothole, or hitting speed bumps at speed? :p haha

I've heard many positive words about terrafirma. From my Motorsport experience, "gas shocks" will often have a "piggyback tank" this allows a faster response time for the "rebound side" although i cannot talk from experience, fitted OEM to mine as "name brands" are too expensive :(

If you want to buy suspension to look good then I highly recommend steering clear of Terrafirma stuff. My Terrafirma shocks and springs look in a worse state after 18months than the 28 year old genuine ones I took off!!! They still perform as they should but the paint quality on them is shocking.
