It is more the fact you're buying bottle of the range. When Range Rover only had one car it was simple. You when you got a RR you got the best car they made. Still crap, but the best that stable could produce. Then the RRS came along, so now you could have a proper RR or a cheaper version. Now they have the Ejit, the RRS poverty spec (the RRS poverty spec is going to be about the same price as a top spec Ejit), RRS and RR.

It muddies the waters. When you buy a motor and don't get even basic luxury features like SatNav, alloy wheels, A/C and front fogs all it does is scream "I can hardly afford to own this car, I should stick to a cheaper marquee like Kia."

That is what the Ejit and soon to be RRS PS edition are going to say about their owners. I can see why TATA are doing it. Under TATA leadership JLR is the most profitable it has ever been. Why? Because TATA recognise there are a lot of people out there who want the bling and JLR at the time were too conservative. Now it is all LED lights and shouty "LOOK AT ME! I COST A ####ING FORTUNE!"

I lost my train of thought. But I still dislike the Ejit. Reminds me too much of the X6.

Do you feel then the same with an Aston Martin V8 Vantage? A Porsche Cayman (Fantastic fun car to drive BTW), Jaguar F-Type? Yes Coz all the above are not : Proper Aston Martin, Proper Porsche and proper Jaguar if we follow these chain of thoughts.

Shall we say that the Nissan GT-R is not a great car since it cost twice as less than a 911 Turbo or a 358 Italia and less "luxurious" than them?? Believe me on this one but after many miles with all of them the 911 Turbo and 358 Italia are just plane boring compare to the GT-R when pushed to the limit. But then again the GT-R is a Nissan and it is an affordable car compare to the very sexy but dull 358 Italia*
You are now comparing one brand to another, which is not the same as bottom of brand to top of a brand. Ejoke, wears the Range Rover label whilst it is actually the Saturday market version of Range Rover.

Nobody will believe for a minutes that by buying an Evoque or a Freelander you will have the same experience than on a RR. But at least you know that you will have a car that has been designed by people who made this amazing RR you may not be able to afford and that some of this experience and knowledge is on the car you bought. Freelander has the honesty to not put on a Range Rover jacket, unlike the ejoke

As a person who's road testing car for magazines and for the fun, I had a unique chance to talk to the people who make these cars and OF COURSE there is in the car like Evoque or V8 Vantage an desire for manufacturer to touch a larger audience but the engineers behind these cars are none the less adding all their knowledge and passion into these cars and made sure it will leave up to people's expectations. All well and good but you cannot just put one side of the story and the bigger story says: there are who those who know Range Rover and have high expectations from the name, which the ejoke does not reach. No matter how many times people say 'oh but it's an entry level Range Rover', as if that is a good thing, they miss the point that Land Rover has diminished the prestige of Range Rover by putting it on a cheap entry level vehicle. Had they an ounce of sense it would have been the Land Rover Ejoke but then that wouldn't appeal to the wannabes , who can't actually afford the brand! So now Range Rover the name has been brought down to the level of a Golf GTI or a Mazda CX-5

I am not against you guys and I understand your passion for the RR, hell I own one! Will not replace it for anything else, well maybe a Classic, MKII, MKIII or MKIV ;-), but give the Evoque a chance...

*I am may sound crazy or stupid and of course the 358 Italia is not dull, the 358 is a GREAT Car, but if you have to compare it to a GT-R, the GT-R will always be faster and more "impressive" when pushed to the limit than the 358.

Whilst no huge fan of the Evoque I'm having to laugh at some of the half legible replies on here wailing that the primary reason it's not a Range Rover is price. I doubt there's many on this forum who can spank 40 grand on a car, I know I'd like to be but I'm not. Instead I'm looking at buying a P38 at a tenth of its original value. Am I too poor to be a Range Rover owner too? Are the owners of the P38s and Classics going to be asked to leave as their cars aren't valuable enough?

I like a healthy exchange of views as much as the next man but some of the homophobia displayed in this thread doesn't represent Range Rover owners at their best, in my opinion.

Interesting post but most likely not for the reasons you think.
The only comment I will make is you seem to be missing the fact that Range Rovers, of all models up to the RRS(which started the rot), whatever age they might be now or what they cost now, started their lives as expensive, prestige, luxury, vehs. The ejoke is none of the above and therein lies the problem.

When the Classic was launched it was neither particularly expensive or luxurious, it was a 2 door 4WD with plastic covered seats aimed, as far as I could see, at Farmers and the like who wanted something a bit better than a series but not a luxury bling box the the RR has become over the years.
Funny how these days folks can see the cost of everything but are blind to the value.
