Before I go at it like a bull in a china shop and break something can you remove (prize up) the roof rail from the outside or is it bolted from the inside (as in the headlining needs to be removed).

I have developed a leak directly below it at the top of the windscreen and seem to remember a thread (I have searched but can't find it) where there was a hole below the rail that needs to be sealed.

I've had a few lunchtime Xmas bevvies with a couple of pals so maybe the said hole is a figment of my imagination but I'm sure I do remember something similar on a thread. If nothing else removing them would satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for any pointers and I'm 99% certain the seal around the windscreen is fine.

Forgot to say its a P38

There was a recent thread that mentioned the hole

Thanks for confirming that a few pints of London Pride had not mashed my brain completely. I seem to remember it had good pics and everything but I'm blowed if I can find it.

it just prises up (gently....)

I checked under mine for a leak.....in the end it turned out to be badly sealed windscreen....a tube of silicon sealant later all sorted.....

So gently bently is the name of the game. Better wait til tomorrow then!! Seal around the windscreen looks fine but as we all know water finds the tiniest of holes.

I know the thread you mean but too lazy to search for it.

Mine had the same problem - seems to be quite common. My leak was under the top windscreen finisher so you may need to remove this too. I think that's where the o/p of the thread you refer to found his hole.

I couldn't see an actual hole in mine, but where the panels join, there seems to be a bit of a gap that the master craftsmen at LR used sealant to fill (and then paint over). This sealant seems to be moving/shrinking as these vehicles age.

Mine looked intact, but I put some silicone sealant over the same area and it fixed the leak permanently.

It's a bit of a bugger getting the windscreen top finisher back on properly though. Mine now buzzes at high speed.

Thanks for that saint, that wasn't the one I was thinking of but it all helps in the quest to resolve my damp patch:eek:

I will let everybody know what I find when I investigate but this will have to wait until the festivities are over as my missus seems to have invited a small army for Xmas dinner and seems its only fair to share her heightened state of anxiety with me!!

My missus has a continuos damp patch, do you think silicone will sort it out, or should i plug it with something? :D:D:D

In between peeling 900 sprouts:( I managed to make a start on my wet patch. To my surprise the roof rail came off very easily. The amount of crap under there was amazing and the water pooling this was causing could be the issue alone but the windscreen finisher does not look in good shape so I don't think its the end of the issue.

To clean the area out and apply some sealant this needs to be moved more than I am achieving at the moment, but I can see that if I prize this up any more its not going to go back in too good a shape. Anybody have any tips on how to move this strip whilst maintaining its finishing qualities.

I've never liked replacing windscreens as they seem to introduce leaks but I have a small chip that looks like its getting bigger;) if you know what I mean and think this may be the way to sort this.

And there was no hole which I found sort of disappointing as I was hoping to fill that in and my problem would be sorted.

As I mentioned, I didn't find an actual hole either. I think the sealant over the panel gaps must have just become porous as silicone sealant over it fixed the leak completely.

You probably need to remove the top finisher to access the area properly.

Do you have any tips on taking off the finishing strip in a way that will make putting it back on in its original state any easier. Because I can see it going back on looking like a dogs dinner the way its coming off at the moment!!

I made a bit of a mess of mine. If I do it again, I would take the side finishers off first. It should just snap back on assuming the clips are in the right place.
