I have spent about an hour today trying to get my hand in behind one of the side facing rear seats in my '94 Discovery to change a tail light bulb, I eventually conceded defeat. I have decided to remove both of the boot seats but as no manual was forthcoming when I bought the Disco a few months ago I'm hoping someone on here can offer advice as to how easy it is, simply removing a few screws?

Done this afew times. I couldnt do it either unless you take the seat out (fitting a high level brake light and reversing bleeper)

You need a star screw bit, and you need it on a ratchet socket driver, cos it's really difficult to do by screw driver. you might need to use a small mm hex socket and put the bit inside it (i do anyway).

Just undo the star screw (be careful not to round it) and carefully withdraw it, keeping the other hand holding the bars together, cos you need to see which washers and bars go where. Do the same for the other side. Just fold it down flat to the floor all in one. No need to pull it all out. And hey presto you can get in.

The way I did it was to undo the 2 wing nuts and take the whole light unit out. Also you can pull the vinyl trim away at the floor level and get your hand in that way.

hi kev. i had the same problem with mine both bulbs went. i managed to get my fingers in after the usual skin removal only to find that the holder was jammed in. i smugly went to get my new star key set only to find the screws in the rear seats were at such a stupid angle none would go on. i'm afraid i too gave up and took it into my local LR specialist when mot time came up. The holder was so jammed in they had to break the whole light unit so hope somebody comes up with an answer

aup mate i've done this afew times now, it was a right bastid to start
sure its a torx 35 you need make sure it's a tight fit;) that way you wont round it off, use a rachet but put something on the end to protect your window(few wraps of tape should do it) i dint do that to start with an it chipped my window when the rachet came off:mad: it is well screwed in, it was on mine,
when you move the seats out the way you got a screw on the back panel, undo it remove panel, taking the bulb holder out is easy, just twist it.
change ya bulb,
now comes the good bit,
when you try to get it back in you cant, there's a rubber seal in the way(pain in the arse:mad: )
get some long nose pliers if the wing nuts tight, loosen em about half way, enough to get the bulb holder back in (don't take the nuts right off there bastids to get back on).
screw it all back together make sure you got a good seal on your light, an put the rest of the ****e back together in reverse order
oh an good luck mate;)
