Hello to all, today something very strange happened to me, was outside cafe and water was dripping, so popped me bonnet and started her up ( 300Tdi ) next thing water pump pulley had sheered off  and bounced around engine bay , took drive belt off and crawled it home only 0.5 mile and kept a very keen eye on temp gauge, cut a long story short got new water pump but need to get power steering pulley off to get to bottom water pump bolt, and i cant hell as like do it? do i have to take the fan cowling off? if so whats the best way? and does that mean removing the fan? do i need special tools for this? sorry for long post but really want to get her finished for weekend, thanks to all that read this, Ian

Take the fan off - you need a fan spanner, well anyone big enough yet narrow to get down the back of it. Also to take it off turn it clockwise (reverse thread). I use a screwfix water pipe spanner designed to do the 15mm and 22mm compression fittings, stick it on, and give it a swift tap with a hammer and it should come right off.

Then with the belt ON - undo the three bolts on the water pump AND PAS pump (the belt will hold them still - but your's sheared so you will need to try and counterhold it some other way - you can counter them with a spanner or ratchet, undo them just enough so you can use a slack one to do the 3rd one if that makes sence.

To do all this you really need to remove the cowling and pipes etc that get in the way (top rad hose if I recall).
