I have to change over the rear door on a 1995 Disco 300 tdi I have just bought for my son.

Any tips or tricks to do this, as the door I have just bought is bloody heavy to say the least!!

No wonder the Disco's are bloody slow when the boot door weighs an absolute tonne

:D
  • Remove the spare wheel first.
  • Jacks and/or engine crane.
  • JCB, fork lift or some other kind of loader.
  • Get someone else to do the lifting, you can share the workload by doing the grunting!
  • Alternately you could dig a pit so that you can reverse the Disco into then you won't have to lift the door at all.
Regarding the weight, would that be a metric tonne, an imperial ton, a short ton, a long ton?
:D:D:D:D:D

well I don't have an engine crane, JCB, for lift or other kind of loader - hoping I will be able to use ratchet straps from the beams of the garage to help with the weight.....

I guess its just a case of undoing the bolts on the hinges and the one on the bottom for the 'arm'. Is there is a plug for the wiring or will it be a case of cut and re-solder?

From what I can see in RAVE for the 300tdi, there are two locations for the connectors for the tailgate door, both on the vehicle, not the door. One is behind a trim panel in the loadspace and the other is in the door jamb. It does look as if all the door connections are in the door jamb. I don't have your Disco version so I can't be absolutely certain.
  • Connector C415 is for the number plate lights, wiper and central locking
  • Connector C438 is for the screen heater
  • Connector C437 is for the high level brake light

Oh, I also forgot to suggest skyhooks.
