Removal of Cats

My cats have just started rattling, Do i pay £250 for new cats or de cat for £55? sensors aint such a big deal cos i run mainly on gas

Removing the cats and leaving the rest of the system intact should result in normal runing on pre cat lambda systems.
Systems with pre and post cat lambda sensors won't like it.

If the back pressure is removed it throws lambda sensor readings right out, sequential lpg normally uses these as reference.

Leaving the sensors in will provide feedback to ecu, As the stock system is fairly restrictive you should see no issues removing cat cores.

For example the AX I sold recently needed a back box as the system is cat and back box only. Sounded like a rally car and burbled and popped very loudly.
On the gas analyser the fueling was going very very rich / very weak -new back box provided required pressure.

I would suggest that any engine with major reduction in back pressure would want a remap and check that injectors and fuel components can deal with the greater requirements. Major engine tuning wants a rolling road-otherwise you get poor fueling at certain rpm ranges
 
Hi.

I had my cats gutted and it sounded awful, like it was blowing at the manifolds so i had them removed, pipe inserted and left the sensors in and had no mixture trouble that i new of...it was a 99 T with the thor engine, motronics management and lpg.

Aha. I think mine have been gutted and is sounds exactly as you describe it - like it's blowing really badly. Absolutely horrible.

Trying to work out what to do about them at the moment.
