Hi all, very new to this so apologies if I do things a little wrong. Just bought an 07 3.6 tdv8. Love it. Only niggles really, I have 2 key fobs, one old and one brand new, or at least unused, and neither work. Can I get the batteries replaced easily? ? YouTube vids show guys destroying them to get into them! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

I think mine may be the slightly older one, haven't got around to reading the book fully yet, but will have a look. Thankyou for replying. Will see if there is anything in there and update you. I still live in hope!

Read through the book and nothing mentioned about changing batteries, only saying they will charge whilst ignition is on. Then saying if a replacement is required to go to the dealers. Am guessing I will just have to spend the £300 ! Shame really as am sure the batteries would only be a tenner!
Thanks for your advice tho.

Where did you get the figure of £300 from? Are you talking just recoding or new fob?

He probably means a new key from husk or a new receiver in the boot I fink
The reason I ask is more about where he gets the £300 from. As having , only last week, been at the dealer ref my own key, it doesnt correspond to the price for recoding or complete new key.. Recoding starts at minimum 2hrs +VAT and key is approx double that, and thats for my older L322. If they have to replace the receiver in the boot , it is even more expensive.

I'm not sure they know what's happening with the key numbers anymore I deliver range rovers and was at a dealership last week and in there storage pdi centre was a brand new vogue with the alarm keep goin off I asked the fella what's wrong with it they were trying to source the right keys as they had lost the ones when the car was delivered

Sounds about right. I had to go in on a particular day because "the only guy , we have, who can work on the older models is in." It's a different world from when a main dealer used to be able to work on any model you brought to them. Thank goodness for specialist independents.
Now Land Rover just need to allow the specialists the technology to work on the keys, since they're obviously not training people on the locking system of older vehicles.

Hi guys, I got the 300 figure from some blog on the net, not sure of any exact price, the only problem I have is I simply want the batteries changed in both fobs, one will work once in a while and they both start and unlock the car manually.
Any advice would be fab.
Thanks

Not a guy but will reply none the less  As stated above the price for resynch is minimum 2hrs +VAT , dealer only. Price for new fob is approx double that depending on model. For my older L322 it was £450. Not forgetting that is my price, with my discount. If it is the unit in the boot, you are looking at a shed load of pain for your wallet.
I suggest you just bite the bullet and take it to your local stealer. You are free to ask them what they think needs doing. Then you will know, for definite, if it is a battery issue or a more technical problem. You will also be able to ask how to change the batteries. The main problem is , the newer the vehicle the more complicated the key set up and the less likely you can get it fixed anywhere but stealers.
I said "thank you very much but I can cope with unlocking the car manually", to my very nice Service Manager, when it transpired i needed new keys. Of all the things that have gone wrong, and will go wrong, spending almost £500 on one key seems like money she can eat elsewhere. It's not really a hardship using a key, most of us did it for years, it's a snowflake problem ;) Anyway its my birthday soon, lets see what the birthday fairy brings ( he'll kill me if he sees ive called him a fairy :D)

Lol, sorry for my mistake, am quite happy using the key, just as I'm sure we all did back in the day ( when we had hoops n sticks to play with ) 1 key which is on the keyring with the heater remote seems like it's sat in a draw from new, opens and starts the car, it's only the remote side seems to not want to play, the other remote ( a tad more worn ) also works fine manually, and oddly, first thing in the morn it will open the doors remotely, yet the rest of the day, when I'm guessing it should have taken a bit of a charge, the remote side gives up the ghost! But both keys still work the old fashioned way so think I will keep it that way. But will pop to the 'stealers' and see what bat they want to hit me with first. Thanks all (guys and gals) for your help and advice. And happy birthday gold rover!

Not my birthday yet, got a couple of weeks ;) but thank you.
Stealers sound like a plan, even if just to find out how to change batteries. Oh and you were lucky, we only had a stick, the hoop rolled away, got crushed by a pony and cart, and as we were not to be trusted with nice things, it was never replaced :( Although my piece of coal was my favourite toy :D

Damn it! I always wanted coal, I had to make do with eating mud. as for the stick and hoop, my brother had the hoop, I had the stick, and he never shared! Ball and kirb, now that brings back memories!

We was rich, we was. We could afford a lump of coal for each kid, dint even have to give it up for the fire. Even when I ate mine I got another one :D No ball and kerb though, street was too busy with horses and carts.
Anyway, off to the stealers with you. Don't forget some protection as you get ready to bend over ;)

I'm sure as part of their training they are fully fledged shafters! Will keep you posted with their wonderful help. Until then, I'd better limber up and get ready to touch my toes! Im trying to hold onto a tiny bit of hope that good old British engineering ain't going to rape and pillage me!
