Bought my Disco ('95 300) a few weeks back and the previous owner never had a remote for the Central Locking/Alarm, so after a quick search on here found my frequency and got hold of a replacement fob.

Reading through Rave I found the section on Pairing a new fob to the Alarm ECU, however when I try to access pairing mode I get nothing...

My method is, Bonnet up/Car unlocked/Key in ignition but not turned:
Hold bonnet switch down and reach through window
Turn key to position where dash lights up
Turn key off
Press drivers sill lock down then back up
Release Bonnet switch
Cycle Key again

According to the manual, this should result in the horn sounding and the LED lighting up. BUT IT DOESN'T!

The perimetric alarm works when used by key so I would imagine the Alarm ECU is ok, I'm guessing it's just down to my technique being wrong...

Anyone who's done this care to help???

TIA

Ah, the door has to be open!

But bugger, the fob doesn't appear to work.

The fob i've got was sold as a Lucas 17TN 433MHz but has 3TXD on the board, looking at the sticker on the bag it should be the same.

Anyone know what their frequency/fob combination is to compare???

Cheers

Lucas 17TN is the same as (amongst many others) Rover 200/400. It has a rolling code. Hence the fob and the alarm need to be synchronised - which is the procedure you're attempting.

As your fob is off a different vehicle, I'm afraid no amount of attempting to synch the two together will work. The fob has to be programmed to the individual coding on the alarm before you can try re-synching them I'm afraid.

It's about half an hour's labour at a suitably equipped independent specialist. Avoiding main stealerships, any good Land Rover, Rover, Lucas or Lotus (and IIRC Vauxhall) specialist should have the gear to do it.

I've been told in the past that second hand fobs don't always want to reprogramme as well as new ones. I suspect that is crap and an excuse to sell you a new fob as the time I had it done it worked just fine...

I would like to do the same on my '96 disco, but dont appear to have a receiver, under the passenger footwell is just the alarm box, nothing with a frequency on.

Also my lights dont flash when locking on central locking ?

Ideas would be welcome !

Thanks Pezza

Same here on my '95 disco... I wouldn't mind have a remote on the central locking (only it's an easy job ;) ).

If i were to take it to a LR garage, they'd just put the ECU to learn mode as above, then pair all fobs required to the ecu. A Garage would work from RAVE just the same as me!

The problem I've got is that the first year of 300Tdi seems to be a bastard child of the 200. Lots of bits seem to be crossovers between models/years.

Hence - without too much research, admittedly - I found a two button fob @ 433MHz and wrongly assumed the single button ones were for 200's. Unfortunately after a bit more research, I've found that my ECU is the earlier type and I will need to find a 433MHz single button fob.

Pezza, your sticker will be on the side of the ecu, a mirror and torch should let you see if it's there. If it is, just pull it off (carefully) then you can look at it easily!
Being a '96 your ECU should be the new type - 10AS - with the two button fob... Wonder what the chances are you will need a 433MHz fob????!!!
Have a quick look on RAVE for the Built in test mode first though, that'll tell you whether or not your ECU's any good...

I will check again, but on this small green box it did not seem to mention anything about MHZ ? But if it could then all i need to do is find someone with a 2 button 433mhz remote ???mmnnn ??

Oh it does say Lucas 4x??? on there if thats any good ?

Thanks for all this help !!

Don't really know to be honest, my sticker was there and looked exactly as shown on the above link...

You are looking at the right box of gubbins aren't you? If my assumptions are right, it should look like this...

The important bit is the second line down!
