remote batt low. cant get cover open.help

"remote battery low " is coming up on dash. i have got 2 new batteries cr 2025, but no matter how i try i cannot remove the cover, the slot is now a complete mess and all around the edges is a mess, but still cant get it open, any ideas please
ps my spare key is at my parents who cant drive
 
drill two small holes opposite each other on the cover about 20mm (3/4") appart. insert two drill bits the same size as the holes you just drilled and use a screwdriver between the two bits to unscrew. Obviously dont go mad with the drill, just go through the cover - a battery drill is best as it is more controlable. Yes it knackers the cover but these are a couple of pound on the bay, and the cover is knackered anyway.

The cover and o ring are cheap from Londrover Dealers

This is the way I did mine

You will need a small pair of electronic type long nose pliers, a small drill just larger than the tip of the pliers.

At right angles to the coin slot drill near but not right up to the edge of the screw cap. Drill 2 holes, deep but not through the battery.

Place pliers in holes vertically and push and twist at the same time, use thick work gloves in case the pliers slip.

Before you try make certain you know which way to turn and aligning the triangles then remove back cover.

It will be tight so take care.

Check you have the key code as you may need it to reprogramme the key

how long will the existing batteries last, coz all tools are down parents?

It's not time, it's button pushes, it will only have a limited number of uses left. Don't have a clue how many, but I would suggest that it's got to be 50+ from the time the message first comes up, as some people can't just drop everything and rush to their nearest dealer to get their batteries changed.
 
after trying for over 2 hrs to remove the rear cover, with no success, i decided to try to go to my parents, on getting into the car , fitted switch into ignition , no warning, and as of yet used it 3 more times without the low batt message re-appearing, so it seems like i can quite easily await the new components arrival, before ruining the fob cover.
 
new bits arrived very promptly.
not only have i changed the batteries and cover on the fob , with the other bits i have fixed the original keyfob , that has not worked for years
so now i have 3 working fobs, brilliant, i can now keep a spare at home and at parents.

had fob in bench fixed vice(light grip) drilled 2 holes 2.4mm put long nosed pliers in , pressed and turned, easy(you gotta remember, ive always had one arm so found ways to do things from a young age)
