Disco 2 remapped TD5 clutch

HI, i have a remapped disco 2 td5 and although the clutch is not slipping, when cold, I am finding it hard to put it in first or reverse sometimes and pressing the clutch makes a loud weird whine, so I am thinking that it will soon need a need clutch kit and any other thing that will be worth changing while doing that job. What would be a good clutch to put? I saw a company called Lof Powerspec clutches which seem to make clutches for remapped td5. Any ideas about their products? How does the clutch feel like? Also, are the valeo dual mass flywheel any good? anything else that would be worth changing

Probably gearbox wear, they are prone to being notchy when cold, you could try some new oil in the box.
 
Could well be the release bearing that's noisy. I had the same symptoms as you with the box & it got worse & became really hard to select gears. I bit the bullet & replaced everything when I got a recon box off the bay. I changed the DMF for a standard Valeo, as well as the clutch. I also got new HD fork & replaced all the release bearing clips & whilst it was all out & easy to get to, the rear crank seal & bastard of a job spigot bearing. The crank seal was about £12 & spigot bearing wasn't much either, although neither were playing up, I just thought whilst going to the effort of removing the box & for the relatively small cost it was worth doing.

Just a little update. I changed the gearbox oil and the oil was very milky (water ingress i guess) and there was a large amount of metal attached to the drain plug. After changing the oil the gearbox became a little bit quieter but it is still a moaner when cold :(. Putting in 1st or reverse especially, but really any gear is still a struggle though. What I have noticed is that once I manage to put it in a gear, then all gears can be selected .... So i press the clutch, try first... nope, try second... nope, try third? yes... And then I can also put in first

Hi what oil did you use?

spigot bearing is the noise when you press the clutch..... £3.50.

VALEO clutch there is no substitute, while you are in there change the DMF again use VALEO
 
Disagree. LOF are very good while not yet proven in super high mileage they are proven in 500nm+ torque road TD5s and race trucks.

Ive got their extreme kit ready to fit.

+1 for the DMF tho

Yes, the spigot bearing is cheap but it is still a gearbox out job, so i will wait until I have no gears or i have no clutch. I was looking for an alternative to the Valeo since I have a remapped engine, so the standard clutch might not be the best for the job.

Yes go for the lof clutch if remapped, nothing wrong with the valeo but it won’t last overly long being remapped, lof do some awesome stuff which is much more beefier than the original
 
fitted the LOF clutch and now I have a really heavy clutch pedal!!! is this normal for them? Mate's heavy duty clutchfix clutch is nowhere near this heavy. certainly not going to live with it like this? And yes, it was fitted by a competent lr specialist

Did you change the slave cylinder and properly bleed the system? Remember it will take at least 500 to a 1000 miles before its bed in

Did you contact LOF, He has a page on FB which may be quicker . I have only heard good things about them as I was looking for one for my 300tdi 90.

1000miles to bed in fully. Stay out of torque band while doing so.

Mate put the powerspec in his disco, pedal weight was the same.

I would have thought on some weekend warrior / greenlaner motors they would not get near 1000 miles for a long time and would need to be in the torque band way before that was reached.

That was the advice given to me by Luke. Otherwise you risk glazing it. However that was for the extreme spec kevlar

OK, just seems strange as on an Extreme spec, which normally, (your beasty being slightly different), Most would be not be doing a 1000 miles before they need to use the torque.

However, I am going to get a power spec LOF clutch on the 90 when it needs it.

Yeah i was supprised at the high miles but id do that in a few weeks so doesnt bother me too much.

His does suggest if possible to use a standard map to let the clutch bed in, which is my plan.

No, i did not change the slave cylinder. With my old clutch, the pedal was very light so i do not see why i have to change the slave?
