Hi Graham, that's exactly what I'm thinking about consequently:

"96 hours and counting................................."

I appreciate I'm acting like a kid, but I am REALLY looking forward to this, hoping I'm not building myself up for a disappointment :5bparty:

yeh i went to the south of france a couple of times when i was a kid in the 70s, and i remember the roads where great then also i was watching wheeler dealers last night on sky where they bought a citroen ds and they drove it back from the south of france to the uk and that reminded me about the roads in france, far better than the roads in the uk so hopefully you will have a great drive back home.

You're absolutely right Graham, the driving and riding ( my Suzuki Bandit) is just superb. Blue skies, great sun, smooth, empty roads and fantastic variety of terrain - can't be beat !!!!! Great food, lovely people, great wine and beer - I love it here.

"88hrs and counting............................."

Not that I'm making a big deal out of this you understand.................

Waiting patiently

Dave

I had my 2000 TD5 manual remapped by the ChipGods (The ChipGods.com - Powered by vBulletin) I bought a spare ECU off eBay and sent it together with the original to ChipGods and had both fitted with sockets and then three programmed chips made - one "economy" one "power" and one OEM. So I now have a spare ECU programmed to my Disco and the choice of three programmes.

I have tried the Economy and it eliminated the flat spot on take-off and improved torque delivery. I have now fitted the Power chip and it does the same plus deliver considerably more mid-range power. I have not done a full fuel consumption test, but it's not horrible at all.

One issue with the Power chip is that it is so flexible, you are tempted to roll through roundabouts in 4th. Putting you foot down at 1200 rpm in 4th produces a fair amount of black smoke for a couple of seconds from overfuelling.

I have 130,000 miles on the engine but it's kept in good tune, never tows and has a new rad.

Total cost was under £300 plus £100 for the spare ECU.

This was explained to me once.
Something to do with enrichment against boost within the map.

You wont completely eliminate black smoke with a effectively remapped ECU.( remember these motors are oil burners ! )

A widely accepted " master " of the TD5 remap is Alive tuning, and if you look on Youtube at thier remapped Blue D2 going round the ring at Peterboro, you,ll see " puffs " of smoke on take off and gear change.

Gary at Alive did my manual disco and now I beleive he dose a little box which can switch three setting from economy to full power fun. He has done much testing and was running a disco with 20+ psi boost with no problems . The manifold problems come from running high load in high gears for long time perods. I have run a tuned td5 towing a rallycar the length and bredth of the country and not had a problem. Well not with the manifold anyway.

how long now dave.

Incidently, with ref to autobox TD5's, use 3rd gear when towing, works really well as Torque converter lockup comes in at 45mph and stays in as low as 30mph. Was brilliant today towing 2.5tons for over 400kms.
